SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Padres players and city leaders surprised more than 140 elementary school students with new bicycles Friday.As part of the Padres Holiday Giving Tour, the team partnered with Bikes for Kids Foundation to gift 141 students at Horton Elementary School. At first, the group of second- and third-grade students thought they were gathered to learn which student had won a bicycle after an essay challenge. One name was read. But then a second student won. A third student had their name read.Just when the streak seemed to come alive, chants of "one more bike" broke out among the students. All the more encouraging for the school, which is designated as the lowest performing elementary school in San Diego County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans will soon have four new restaurants for dining along the San Diego Bay, as Mayor Kevin Faulconer joined Port of San Diego officials and The Brigantine Inc. for the ribbon cutting ceremony Monday for Portside Pier. Portside Pier is an over-the-water dining complex that has been years in the making. It will have four restaurants -- Brigantine on the Bay, Miguel's Cocina, Ketch Grill & Taps and Portside Coffee & Gelato. The dining complex replaced Anthony's Fish Grotto, a staple for 52 years along the bay. The dining complex is now owned by The Brigantine Inc. The restaurants are opening amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of the restaurants have plenty of outdoor space to seat about 500 people, with all social distancing guidelines in place. The complex has capacity for about 1,000 people, once pandemic restrictions are lifted. Portside Pier is the first of several projects along the waterfront, to improve and update the embarcadero. The coffee and gelato bar are already open. The other restaurants officially open on July 28. 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are warning parents in the Carmel Valley area after a man reportedly exposed himself to students walking to school Tuesday.Police say a man was in the passenger side of a parked car on Carmel Creek Road, and exposed and touched himself inappropriately with the car door open. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents can learn about the city's most iconic buildings this weekend during an open house of nearly 100 sites.Open House San Diego, hosted by the San Diego Architectural Foundation, is offering a free look into sites including buildings downtown, in Barrio Logan, Balboa Park, La Jolla, and elsewhere in the county March 23 and 24. Guests get designer-led tours of hidden gems and treasures across San Diego and can participate in a photo contest to win prizes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Results of an audit show the City of San Diego has paid hundreds of millions of dollars in liability claims.From 2010 to 2018, the city had 20,000 liability claims, which has resulted in 0 million in public liability costs. That translates to about million per year to settle or resolve these claims.At the top of that list, as far as the number of cases, involves city vehicle accidents with 2,075 claims, where the city paid .7 million. Also included in this list are trips and falls, with 931 claims and the city paid .7 million towards those liability costs.The City Auditor’s Office also made recommendations to reduce the number of claims. When it comes to trips and falls, they suggested the city focus on fixing the sidewalks in high pedestrian areas. Their data has found people are four times as likely to trip and fall in those areas of the damage to the sidewalk.When it comes to accidents involving city drivers, they believe there needs to be more training for them.The report will now be forwarded over to the City Council for review. 1090
