A New Year's Eve storm is set to bring heavy snow, strong winds and ice to the Northeast, while further south thunderstorms and rain could round out 2018.A complex storm system will bring a "plethora of impacts" from the Rockies to the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest on Monday, potentially making travel dangerous, the National Weather Service said."This arctic boundary will cause temperatures to plummet and wind chills to reach hazardous levels from Montana to Minnesota," the NWS said Sunday.Another front moving south is expected to bring "significant snowfall" to parts of Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico, where some areas could get more than 8 inches of snow accumulation, the weather service said.Meanwhile, a storm moving from the western Gulf of Mexico is expected to result in widespread rainfall and thunderstorms as it pushes into the Ohio Valley and then the Northeast on Monday, the NWS said."Severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and flooding" will be possible from the lower Mississippi Valley to the mid-South, and the Midwest on New Year's Eve, the weather service said. 1106
A recently obtained arrest report details what led to the arrest of a Clark County School District employee late last year. Matthew Bidart, 27, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for open and gross lewdness on Dec. 5, 2019, after an incident occurred at Del Sol Academy. Students informed school administration they had observed Bidart, a theater manager at the school, with a hand down his pants "doing a masturbation motion" while scrolling through his phone at his desk. The reported incident took place on Nov. 15, according to police records. One of the students told police they were "shocked" to see Bidart masturbating and informed them that they saw him doing these actions through his office window while they were walking backstage. Bidart initially told police he was having a problem with his zipper. However, upon further questioning, he admitted to touching himself while looking at Instagram, but "it was a light squeeze" and didn't think anyone could see him. The 27-year-old also told police he "would not consider myself masturbating." 1085
A Republican congressman who used much of his allotted questioning time during former special counsel Robert Mueller's congressional hearing on Wednesday to defend President Donald Trump has been under consideration for a job within the administration, sources tell CNN."I agree with the chairman, this morning, when he said Donald Trump is not above the law. He's not. But he damn sure shouldn't be below the law, which is where volume two of this report puts him," Rep. John Ratcliffe said of Mueller's report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. The Texas Republican's statement was one of several from Trump's Republican allies on the Hill, who have questioned Mueller's handling of the investigation and his credibility.Ratcliffe, who has served in Congress since 2015, argued during Mueller's hearing before the House Judiciary Committee that in the second volume of the report, Mueller offered "extra-prosecutorial analysis about crimes that weren't charged" and accused the former special counsel of breaking Justice Department regulations by doing so.Ratcliffe has been under consideration for a job within the Trump administration, sources told CNN, including an intelligence or national security role. The congressman speaks with the President often, and Trump is a big fan of his, the sources said. The congressman's name was floated last year as a possible replacement for former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who was eventually succeeded by William Barr.Ratcliffe, a former federal prosecutor, has been critical of the way the Democrats on the committee have approached Mueller's investigation after it ended, arguing in April against the panel authoring a subpoena for an underacted version of the report."Let Bob Mueller come, and let's ask Bob Mueller to come and whether or not he thinks the report he created should be disclosed without considerations of redactions for classified national security information, or without redactions for grand jury information or other information related to ongoing investigations," he said at the time. 2078
A school bus driver was arrested after she overdosed while driving and crashed into a tree, Newark police said. The driver, Lisa Byrd, was transporting a dozen students from 14th Avenue School in Newark when the vehicle crashed into a tree on Wednesday, officials said in a statement. When first responders arrived, police said they revived the 57-year-old woman with Narcan -- a drug that instantly reverses the effects of overdose from heroin and other opioids. The students, ages 5 to 13, were not injured, police said.Byrd, who was taken to a local hospital, is facing 12 charges of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while impaired and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.It was not immediately clear whether Byrd has an attorney."Endangering the lives of Newark children is something we will not tolerate," said Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka in a statement. "We are grateful that none of the students were injured and that no other residents were harmed due to this incident."The company employing the driver, F&A Transport, has been "removed from transporting children" until an investigation is completed, Newark Public Schools said in a statement.CNN has reached out to the company for comment.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company.
