DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- Leaders with SANDAG, North County Transit District, and the chair for California's Transportation Committee met Friday off 7th Street in Del Mar to get a closer look at their bluff stabilization 0 million project, now 20 years in the making. Additions include sea wall improvement and a drainage system that runs parallel to the train tracks.NCTD Executive Director Matt Tucker said "We feel really confident. It'll secure the bluffs to allow continued safe movement on the corridor and it'll give time for the exact project we want to pursue and gain, to allow funding for a permanent solution."Natural disasters like heavy rain are a big concern that would cause tracks and bluffs to crumble down. After countless collapses in the past, beachgoers like Chris Smith, are often worried.Smith told ABC 10News, "I feel comfortable but in the back of my mind you know something could always happen." He also said awareness by leaders is a plus but the tracks should be moved entirely. "With the impact to what the train is providing to the cliff, at some point there's gonna be a negative impact to it," Smith added.Leaders said the new additions will buy them about 30 years, to plan a more permanent solution which could involve moving tracks into a tunnel system.Phase 5 of the project is slated to begin next summer, while plans for phase 6, the final phase, is still in the works. 1419

(KGTV) – The Bing Crosby Season at the Del Mar Racetrack kicks off Saturday with new rules to keep everyone involved healthy and safe.Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Media Director Mac McBride told ABC 10News, "We normally have one large jockey's room. What we've done now is made three jockey’s rooms to thin out the ranks so they're not sitting on top of each other like they do normally.”Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this racing season will be noticeably different than years past. This season, jockeys will also wear masks on and off the horses, test daily for the coronavirus, and if anyone receives a positive result, they'll be required to quarantine for at least 10 days."When we put that into place in the summer after our first hiccup, it worked out well. We had no further incidents with our riders,” McBride said.McBride added that even though the club took a big hit with empty stands this summer, folks were still tuning in and bets were still flying high."We thought we might do well, but we had no idea how we were going do that well, and we did. The jump from million to million average a day staggered us, it was amazing,” said McBride.Thanks to betting profits, the racetrack was able to maintain their four-legged showstoppers, which is their top priority, among keeping everyone safe."Even if we raced and lost money, it still would've been a good thing because horses in the end would be taken care of, and that's the focus right now. DENVER -- With Colorado’s rapid growth comes rising housing costs and more congestion on the road from more cars — and that doesn't even cover parking.A single parking garage space recently sold for a record-setting ,000 in downtown Denver. The spot is located right across the street from the Colorado Convention Center. “That was on a flat surface pretty close to the entry point,” said realtor Mark Trenka, who sells parking spots and real estate downtown.For the same price as a brand new Mercedes Benz C-Class, a Lexus LS, or a 5 Series BMW, someone bought 137 square feet of concrete.“They’re real estate transactions. It’s real property,” Trenka said. Trenka has sold nearly 70 parking spaces in Denver over the last few years, ranging from ,000 up to ,000.“We’ve seen a trend up in prices just like the condos,” he said. Denver is still not at a New York City or Chicago price level for buying parking spots, but the Mile High City’s prices are blazing new territory in Colorado. “The average of a parking space in the downtown area is between ,000 and ,000,” Trenka said. And while it’s a one-time cost to own the asphalt, you’re not out of the woods in terms of paying for it.
