SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Gusty Santa Ana winds will sweep through San Diego County Monday amid dry conditions, raising the risk of wildfires in the mountains and the inland valleys, according to the National Weather Service.The agency issued a wind advisory that will be in effect until 5 p.m. Monday in the coastal areas and the western valleys.Winds out of the northeast are expected to be between 25-35 mph, with sustained wind gusts potentially reaching 55 mph, forecasters said. Humidity will drop to around 5-10% Monday afternoon with poor overnight recovery.This combination will create an elevated risk of wildfires in the mountains and the western valleys through Tuesday, according to the NWS. Outdoor burning is not recommended.To reduce the risk of wildfire in some parts of North County, SDG&E notified approximately 21,480 residents over the weekend that it may have to turn off power Monday and Tuesday. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public to keep an eye out for a missing Lemon Grove teenager with a history of running away from home.The last known sighting of Alonna Wintland, 15, was on July 31, when she left her home in the 8000 block of Lemon Grove Way in a car driven by an unidentified man, according to sheriff's officials.At the time, Alonna, who did not take her cellphone or debit card with her when she disappeared, was wearing beige shorts, a white shirt and sandals. Her whereabout since have been unknown.Alonna is white, 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 235 pounds. She has blue eyes and blond hair, which recently has had purple-dyed highlights.Anyone spotting a girl matching her description is asked to call the San Diego County Sheriff's Department at 858-565-5200. 807

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Southwest High School student was detained today for displaying what initially appeared to be a firearm over his home computer during a remote-learning class, police reported.A staff member at the Hollister Street campus reported the potential threat shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.Patrol personnel went to the teen's nearby Nestor-area home and called him out, then took him into custody for questioning, Officer Scott Lockwood said.After the youth -- who turned out to be in possession of a BB gun, not a real firearm -- complained of shortness of breath, medics transported him to Rady Children's Hospital for an evaluation.The student, whose identity was withheld, was not expected to face any criminal charges over the incident but will undergo a psychiatric screening intended to determine the motivation for his actions, Lockwood said. 895

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman died Monday after being injured Sunday when she was hit by a car in Rancho Penasquitos, police said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner says Nang Arm, 37, died after she was taken off life support Monday. Medics responded to a call at 7:07 a.m. Sunday on Black Mountain Road and Carmel Mountain Road, where they found an unconscious woman with face injuries, San Diego police Sgt. Robert Hawkins said.A gold-colored 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 20-year-old Uvelyn Nunez- Jaramillo and carrying two passengers, was heading south on the 13700 block of Black Mountain Road when the car veered to the right, SDPD Sgt. Tim Underwood said.The car went onto a sidewalk, damaged a fence, then struck the Nang. She was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, Hawlins said.The car continued a short distance down the street, where it also hit a water line before it came to a stop. Nunez-Jaramillo exited the Nissan and walked away.Several passersby stopped at the scene to render aid to the woman and emergency personnel, Underwood said.Detectives determined that Nunez-Jaramillo caused the crash. She was contacted and returned to the scene, where police determined she allegedly was driving under the influence.She was arrested and booked in the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.Detectives also interviewed Nunez-Jaramillo's two passengers, who were released, Underwood said. 1468

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A report released Thursday by the International Boundary and Water Commission found a significant presence of wastewater in border channels in the Tijuana River Basin impacting San Diego.In the report, "Binational Water Quality Study of the Tijuana River and Adjacent Canyons and Drains," scientists from the United States and Mexico collected samples from of seven transboundary channels.The sampling and laboratory analysis for the study were performed from December 2018 to November 2019. The findings indicate the presence of treated and untreated domestic and industrial wastewater.The scientists analyzed 267 different parameters in water and 204 parameters in sediment for pathogens, metals, industrial organics, pesticides, as well as conventional parameters typically found in wastewater. Of the parameters tested, 131 were not detected and 136 had detectable levels.Parameters that exceeded standards in both countries at all monitoring sites are those associated with the presence of wastewater, including ammonia, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, oils and greases, phosphorus, nitrates, methylene blue active substances and coliform bacteria.Data analysis indicates that the parameters which exceeded standards had originated as uncontrolled sewage spills from Tijuana. Disposal of solid waste or trash contributes to the presence of certain parameters exceeding the standards, such as the organic compound DEHP. Commonly used in the manufacture of plastics, DEHP exceeded applicable standards at all monitoring sites and could have leached from plastic accumulated in the canyons and Tijuana River.The results showed that certain parameters of concern -- Hexavalent Chromium and the pesticides DDT and Aldrin -- were either not detected or found in very low amounts below the limits established in both countries' applicable regulations. Likewise, metals such as copper, nickel and zinc, which are commonly used in the metal plating industry, were detected at levels within applicable standards in both countries.The report also includes recommendations related to control of industrial wastewater discharges in Tijuana, increased resources and assistance for wastewater collection and treatment systems in Tijuana, and continued joint water-quality monitoring and field inspections to detect and respond timely to wastewater flows. 2389
