The midterm elections brought a lot of new firsts, with a record number of women and new minorities serving in office. Supporters are calling it a “rainbow wave.”Minorities of all ages, ethnicities and faiths will now have a voice in Congress. A sweeping 30 seats in the House were snagged, including one by first time Democratic candidate and former Navy commander Elaine Lorea, who flipped her district in Virginia blue.Voters in Michigan and Minnesota elected the first Muslim women into Congress. In Kansas and New Mexico, the nation’s very first Native American women were elected to join the ranks.But it's not just Democratic women shaking up trends. Republican women are making history too.Marsha Blackburn is now the first female Senator in Tennessee. Kristi Noem, the first female governor in South Dakota, also made history.And rounding out the blue and red hues in the rainbow wave is the governor-elect from Colorado.Jared Polis' voters surged the polls, electing him as the first LGBTQ state leader in the Mile High. The moves are still, sharp, and strong. Similar and yet so different than the moves these students used while serving our country. In this class the yoga students are all veterans. And these poses have helped them with much more than flexibility."My post traumatic stress was going so fast," says William Walls, a Marine who served in Iraq. "You accept the fact that possibly every day you could die, that's really what it is."And his transition back to civilian life, wasn't so easy. "I ended up spending a little bit of time in jail," Walls recalls. "Had a drinking problem and I didn't realize it was a problem. And yeah and it's just been, it was hell."He tried medicine, therapy and was still battling depression when he received an unexpected recommendation."My therapist kept saying hey why don't you try yoga," Walls remembers. "And I'm like no that's for other people. I'm a big bad tough marine. I don't need yoga."He eventually tried it, and can still remember his first class. "I just started to cry," Walls says. "And I don't even know why I started to cry just something was released inside of me. Something was letting go and I realized like I like this. I like this a lot. This is better than drugs and alcohol."Now Walls is not only a yoga student, but is becoming a teacher through this program, called Comeback Yoga. Everyone in the organization is a volunteer. And co-founder Margot Timbel says every veteran, no matter their level, is welcome."Don't be intimidated if you think yoga is for flexible people or that yoga is for people who have to be able to stand up and get up and down off the mat all the time," Timbel says. " Yoga is for every body and everybody."Now these veterans are experiencing a camaraderie of a different kind."They have experienced the same things you have and may even have the same problems," says veteran Curtis Schaub.And they are hoping more who sacrificed to serve will join them on this unexpected path.The Comeback Yoga classes are free for veterans and their family members. 2043

The Miami Police Department says what began as disagreement about masks led to an assault on Sunday evening.According to a statement from the Miami Police Department, the incident began at Latin Cafe, a ventanita or coffee shop near Miami International Airport. Surveillance video shows five people milling about outside of the cafe.The Miami Police Department says a few patrons got into an argument about mask compliance. Video shows one customer, wearing a mask and a red shirt, gesturing toward cafe employees and appearing to speak in exaggerated tones toward another customer without a mask.The customer without a mask stepped toward the man in the red shirt, and then a struggle ensued. Additional security footage shows the man in the red shirt falling to the ground. That man's girlfriend saw the incident from her car and ran to help. Police say she was also hit during the scuffle.Miami Police Officer Kiara Delva told WSVN-TV in Miami that the fight left the man in the red shirt "disoriented."Police say they're searching for four people in connection with the incident. It's unclear how many of those people could face charges.Miami currently requires the use of masks in public to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. First-time offenders are issued warnings, while repeat offenders could face fines. 1325

The official schedule of memorial services for former President George H.W. Bush, who died late Friday at the age of 94, was released Saturday evening.An arrival ceremony involving both the House and Senate will be held at 4:45 p.m. ET on Monday at the US Capitol, where Bush will lie in state in the rotunda until Wednesday morning. The public can pay their respects to the 41st president from 7:30 p.m. ET Monday to 8:45 a.m. ET Wednesday.On Wednesday, family and friends will gather at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, for an 11 a.m. ET memorial service.President Donald Trump designated Wednesday as a national day of mourning, the White House said.The former president will also lie in repose at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, where Bush lived, from 7:45 p.m. ET Wednesday until 7 a.m. ET Thursday. A second memorial service for Bush will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. ET Thursday.Bush will then be taken by a motorcade procession to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas, where he will be laid to rest.. The remains will be transported by funeral car (train) to College Station.The arrival ceremony at Texas A&M University will be at 4:45 p.m. ET and will be followed by another ceremony and the interment at 5:15 p.m. ET at the George Bush Presidential Library & Museum.Both Bush's wife Barbara, the former first lady who died in April, and their daughter Robin, who died of leukemia as a child, are laid to rest on the library's grounds.A tribute website for Bush has been set up on which funeral details will be posted.In lieu of flowers, the Bush family has requested that donations be made to the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.To honor the former president, the international nonprofit Points of Light, founded by Bush, invited the public to celebrate Bush by giving a day of service in his memory. 1947
