President Donald Trump's son Donald Trump Jr.'s wife Vanessa Trump has filed for an uncontested divorce. The couple first married in 2005 and have five kids together. "After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways," a joint statement from the Trumps said. "We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time."The New York Post's Page Six was first to report on the divorce. According to Page Six's sources, Trump Jr.'s hectic travel schedule running The Trump Organization has worn on the couple. “Don Jr. has been busy traveling, which has contributed to their problems. Vanessa is a devoted mother, but she is increasingly lonely and alone in the house with the children," a Page Six source said. In February, an envelope that contained a white powder was sent to Trump Jr. and his wife. The threatening envelope turned out to be a hoax.  1047

President Trump on Monday denied that he offered Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) a million charitable donation if she would take a DNA test that proved she had Native American heritage."Who cares," Trump said when asked about Warren's DNA test. "I didn't say that, you'd better read it again."During a rally in Great Falls, Montana on July 5, Trump posed a hypothetical scenario in which he and Warren squared off in a presidential debate. Trump stated that if Warren were to bring up her claimed Native American heritage during the debate, he would immediately ask her to prove her bloodline with a DNA test."We will say, 'I will give you a million dollars to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the (DNA) test and it shows you're an Indian,'" Trump said.Warren called out Trump's false statement in a tweet on Monday."Having some memory problems, @realDonaldTrump? Should we call for a doctor?" Warren tweeted.  970

President Donald Trump's niece offers a devastating portrayal of her uncle in a new book. Mary Trump writes that a “perfect storm of catastrophes” have exposed the president at his worst. Early copies of the book, “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man," slated for publication next week, became available on Tuesday. She writes that the coronavirus pandemic, the possibility of an economic depression and deepening social divides have brought out the “worst effects" of Trump's "pathologies." Multiple media outlets, including CNN and the New York Times, are reporting on details from the book, including that Mary Trump alleges President Trump paid to have someone take the SAT for him. She says the combination of emergencies are problems that “no one is less equipped than my uncle to manage." Mary Trump is the daughter of Trump's eldest brother Fred Trump Jr., who died in 1981. Trump's other brother Robert, filed injunctions to stop the publication of the book. Robert Trump's lawyers argued Mary Trump had agreed not to publish such a book without permission from the family. Last week, a New York court ruled the book could be released. 1196

Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee completed a significant step in confirming President Donald Trump's pick for a new Supreme Court justice on Thursday, despite Democrats' attempts to throw up parliamentary roadblocks in an attempt to delay the process. The committee reconvened at 9 a.m. ET on Thursday — four hours earlier than was previously scheduled — and held a vote that sent Barrett's confirmation to the Senate floor. No Democrats were present for the vote, following the promise of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, who said Monday that they intended to "boycott" the vote.Committee rules require that a quorum — or a minimum number of senators from the minority party — be present at the meeting for a vote to take place. Republicans simply changed the committee rules and voted anyway.Schumer tweeted Wednesday that he will force a vote to adjourn the Senate until after the election. That vote will likely fail, given that Republicans control the Senate. He and other top Democrats will hold a press conference later on Thursday.According to The Washington Post, some Democrats placed cardboard cutouts of their constituents who have benefitted from the Affordable Care Act in their seats.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he plans to keep Senators in Washington through the weekend to focus on Barrett's confirmation. McConnell has said he plans to conduct the full Senate vote on Barrett's confirmation on Monday. At this point, only two Republicans appear to be wavering in their support for Barrett, meaning her confirmation should still pass with at least 51 "yes" votes.Thursday's vote comes after the committee held four days of hearings last week. While President Donald Trump has said that he would only nominate a Supreme Court justice which he believed would rule against abortion rights and the Affordable Care Act — and Barrett's past opinions and rulings indicate she fits those qualifications — she mostly avoided answering specific policy questions, citing the precedent set by other future justices during their confirmation hearings.Democrats have argued that the Senate should hold off on appointing a Supreme Court justice until after the November election, considering that a Republican-controlled Senate chose to keep a seat vacant for nearly nine months ahead of the 2016 election rather than grant President Barack Obama's nominee a hearing.Republicans have said that because they control the White House and the Senate, they have an obligation to those that voted for them to fill the seat immediately. Opinion polling indicates that most Americans would prefer the seat be filled by whoever wins the 2020 election.Should she be confirmed, Barrett would replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a liberal stalwart who served on the high court for nearly three decades. 2846
