It's been a long time running -- four decades to be exact -- since an American woman broke the finish line tape at the New York City Marathon, but Olympic medalist Shalane Flanagan did just that on Sunday.With an unofficial time of 2 hours, 26 minutes and 53 seconds, the 36-year-old Flanagan beat three-time defending champion Mary Keitany of Kenya by a minute and one second. Times won't be official until later this month.Flanagan crossed the finish line in tears before proudly holding the Stars and Stripes aloft. IOWA CITY, Iowa — A young child died due to complications from coronavirus in June, the first confirmed death of a minor in Iowa during the pandemic, the state health department belatedly announced Sunday evening.The Iowa Department of Public Health said the state medical examiner’s office concluded its case investigation Aug. 6 into the death of the child, who was under the age of 5. But the death wasn’t reported in the state’s statistics until Saturday, more than two weeks later.“The child’s death was publicly reported this weekend after ensuring the individual’s identity would remain protected and notifying the family,” the department said in a statement. “We have made every effort to protect the identity of this child, while the family grieves this devastating loss. Again, we send our sincerest condolences.”The department says the medical examiner performed a full range of testing to determine the cause of death and the child’s health history was taken into account.“Ultimately, COVID-19 was deemed the cause of death,” the statement said.The confirmation of the state’s first child death comes one day before dozens of school districts are prepared to begin the school year on Monday — a development that has many educators and parents already on edge.Iowa Gov. INDIANAPOLIS -- Jared Fogle is now asking for  million as remuneration for a “conspiracy” to rob him of his fortune he says was orchestrated by judges, the U.S. attorney’s office, FBI investigators and the attorney general of the United States.   Fogle’s latest filing was entered by the court on Monday. In it, the former Subway pitchman – now serving more than 15 years on charges of child porn and sexual conduct with a minor – alleges federal Judge Tanya Walton-Pratt, who sentenced him to prison, two members of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, an Illinois U.S. district court judge and both of his lawyers undertook a “scheme to defraud” Fogle by tricking him into pleading guilty to a false charge.READ | Full?Fogle?plea agreementIn addition to his wrongful imprisonment, Fogle claims he suffered at least million in damages. The suit asks the government to grant him threefold damages as remuneration in the sum of million.The claim – which purports to outline a sprawling RICO case involving fraudulent search warrants, bogus charges and ill-gotten advice from attorneys to agree to pay .4 million in restitution to Fogle’s juvenile victims (at least million of which Fogle had already paid prior to his sentencing) – is the latest attempt by Fogle to get out of the plea he entered in November 2015.Previous such attempts – an apparent “sovereign citizen” defense rejected in November, the demonstrably false claim that Judge Pratt was “biased” because of her two teenage daughters at the time of the sentencing (she had none), and the argument that he pleaded guilty to an “unconstitutional” charge of conspiracy –  have so far been unsuccessful. In addition to this most recent filing, Fogle also has two open civil cases against Pratt and the U.S. government arguing he should be released.Fogle is joined in the RICO case claim by two other defendants: James Nathan Fry and Frank Edwin Pate.Pate, a former resident of Bonham, Texas, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison in November 2015 for wire and mail fraud in connection to a foreign currency trading scheme and ordered to pay .8 million in restitution.Fry was sentenced in October 2013 to more than 17 years in prison and to pay million in restitution for his role in a .65 billion Ponzi scheme, according to the Star Tribune in Minneapolis.Pate and Fry are asking for million and 4 million in restitution, respectively, from judges, FBI agents, assistant U.S. attorneys and IRS employees connected to their cases.In all, the three men’s combined complaint targets 34 defendants and asks for 3 million in damages to be paid to Fogle, Pate and Fry.At least part of Fogle’s motivation behind the RICO suit may have been made clear Wednesday, when he filed a motion to dismiss in his civil suit against Pratt claiming that, because he has filed a RICO suit naming her as a defendant, the entire U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana is now a “conflict of interest” forum.Fogle is currently serving his sentence at the federal correctional institute in Englewood, Colorado. It’s the news glioblastoma patients in St. Lucie County feared they’d hear: There are more cases than they knew of.This week Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida reported on 11 glioblastoma cases in the Fort Pierce-area, discovered through word of mouth from the patients and their families.For two days, more people wrote to WPTV, telling us about other people they know with the disease, which affects just 13,000 people each year in the U.S.When WPTV broadened the focus area to include all of St. Lucie County, our number now increased to roughly 30 cases over the last five years. Several more cases date with the few years previous to that.The Florida Department of Health confirms it is monitoring their concerns and considering how to move forward.The Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County has also met with some of the Glioblastoma patients and families.Patients like Kevin Perry say they never anything about the disease.“You hear about cancer all the time, but Glioblastoma? No,” Perry said.He was diagnosed in 2016 shortly after he had a seizure.“Some days you feel like you’re brand new. Other days you feel like its all over you,” Perry said.Perry’s wife, Ronna, is among the now dozens of local families wanting to know if their cases warrant a bigger investigation.I would like to know if there’s something going on. Or, is it just getting more prevalent.”Thursday, when WPTV’s glioblastoma count was around 13, we spoke with Dr. Chaim Colen, a neurosurgeon who has treated some of the local patients.“It’s definitely high. Is that a coincidence?
