CORONADO (CNS) - The City of Coronado and The Port of San Diego closed the Grand Caribe Shoreline Park Thursday until further notice, citing public health orders during the ongoing pandemic.The port had reopened the park in May, but because of heavier-than-usual use at the park -- which abuts Chula Vista on the bayside of the Coronado Cays -- it has become challenging to enforce social distancing for visitors."However, due to heavier than normal use, enforcement of the State and County’s health orders, which requires measures to ensure park visitors are social distancing from others, has become a challenge," a release from the port read.The park will be closed until gatherings are allowed without restrictions. "Closed" signs will be posted at the park, and the Coronado Police Department will assist the port with enforcement of the closure. 859

CLEVELAND — Have you ever heard of an emotional support animal being a squirrel?A passenger boarding a Frontier Airlines flight in Orlando headed to Cleveland got on the plane with one Tuesday night.A Frontier Airlines official said the passenger did note in their reservation that they were bringing an emotional support animal but did not indicate that it was a squirrel.Frontier Airlines does not allow rodents on flights.When they told the passenger of the policy and asked her to deplane, she refused and Orlando police were called. Many passengers WEWS spoke to didn't seem annoyed or angry but rather amused."The joke of the plane was hashtag squirrel so you’ll probably see it all over social media," said passenger Amber Calhoun.She was eventually escorted off the plane, allowing the plane to depart. A spokesperson for Frontier Airlines said the woman's ticket did indicate she had an emotional support animal but never specified the type of animal.The whole fiasco delayed the flight for almost two hours.  1046

CORONADO (KGTV) - Jason Cabell served 20 years as an E8 Senior Chief Navy SEAL. After living in San Diego for most of his adult life he made a big change after retirement, “It’s been almost 7 years since I said I’m going to go to Hollywood and make movies.” He transitioned from the battle field to the big screen, “I spent the first half of my life as a warrior and I knew I had this gut feeling I have to do something in the arts.” In 2014, Cabell wrote the script for the movie, Running with the Devil, it started being filmed in 2015 and coming up in September, it will hit theaters. COLLIER COUNTY, Fla — Deputies say a trip to the ice cream store ended with a man getting scooped up by police for DUI.Deputies say 23-year-old Josh Verrot faces several charges, including DUI, battery on a first-responder and fraud. According to a Collier County Sheriff's arrest report, he was arrested Sunday evening outside the Royal Scoop ice cream shop on 8th street in the Vanderbilt Lakes community.Witnesses say that Verrot was driving recklessly in a car with two flat front tires when he pulled into the ice cream shop parking lot and went inside.  As he came out with ice cream, he heard approaching sirens and fled on foot.Deputies located him behind the store and say he refused to do sobriety tests. On the way to the hospital he reportedly bit a firefighter's finger, repeatedly spit toward authorities and yelled “blah-blah-blah” while authorities communicated with him.He also provided his brother's name when asked to identify himself.He's due in court at the end of the month. 1024
