Psychological first aid. That's the mission of a new program within the Medical Society of the State of New York. It's called "Peer to Peer" and it's a way for doctors to counsel each other, especially as they try to manage the exhaustion and trauma brought on by COVID-19.Dr. Frank Dowling said the medical profession has been stressful from its onset. “You can find journal articles from 1850 talking about docs and depressions alcohol and suicide," Dowling said. Initiating the "Peer to Peer" program has been a career goal of his, a bucket list item.“Because we’re professionals, we expect ourselves to take all this in and, incorrectly in my view, not feel it and we have a professional demeanor,” Dowling said.Dr. Dowling says doctors are under immense pressure to not show the stress they take on. “Could you imagine a cardiac surgeon working on someone you love, bringing them to the emergency room saying 'OMG, I have a life in my hands?' So it gets pushed aside in its own natural way where people know how to do it and we do what we’ve got to do,” Dowling said.Add in insurance headaches, trauma, and then: 2020. And COVID-19. New York's medical system is still dealing with the stress of the pandemic.“Those stressors don’t stop because we have a pandemic, the pandemic adds to the burden of stressors that already exists,” Dowling said.Dr. Charles Rothberg chairs the Medical Society, State of New York's Committee on Physician Wellness and Resiliency. They've been working on the "Peer to Peer" program because physician burnout is not new. COVID-19 hit, and they knew it needed to get off the ground.“The program is essentially for people that are engaged in a stressful profession that from time to time find that their coping mechanisms are exceeded by the stressors they experience,” said Rothberg.There's been doctor suicides, addiction and financial problems, real life struggles, exasperated by the coronavirus. For doctors, there's often a stigma associated with the stress. “There was concern that physicians would not want to consult a peer for fear that they would be reported or trigger an obligation of a colleague to do the reporting,” Rothberg said.Peers, he says, should provide safety, comedy, a connection - and basic support. “A physician should know that they are doing a good job even if sometimes unexpected outcomes occur for example,” Rothberg said.Before they launched "Peer to Peer", they were working on ways to prevent and reduce doctor burnout. Ironically, that program was halted because of COVID-19. Which, then of course, made the burnout even worse."Peer to Peer" offers a number to call- 1-844-P2P-PEER and an email, p2p@mssny.org, to contact, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, not for treatment, but casual conversation, to talk it out with someone who's going through the exact same thing. “Maybe to just share with a peer that this happened to me also and here’s how I responded to it a lot of the problems that people have are common to each other,” Rothberg said.Or, as Dr. Dowling puts it, head over to the zoom diner, meet a friend and take a load off. “I want the docs that we help in the peer to peer to get well, to get better, to love life again and love why they went into medicine," said Dowling. 3263

Recently, 90 million people had their Facebook account’s breached. Many are still trying to log back into their page, but are unsuccessful in their attempts. Cyber experts say you should first focus on protecting your personal information that could have been compromised. Tekesha Saffold realized her account was breached when she logged in, but soon realized it wasn’t her account. She reached out to Facebook by phone, but she got an automated recording directing her to their troubleshooting page online. “I have no access to my account at this point, and it has all my information in it,” Saffold says. Saffold completed the steps Facebook told her to take in order to gain access back into her account, but it didn’t work.Cyber expert Fred Kneip, with Cyber GRX, says the most important thing to do is figure out what other accounts you sign into using your Facebook credentials. “The first things hackers do is take those passwords or credentials,” he explains. Hackers try to apply those passwords to banking sites and healthcare sites to get more information, and ultimately, steal your identity. That’s why Kneip says to focus on your passwords.“If you are updating your passwords and using unique passwords, that’s the safest way to address this,” Kneip says.He also suggests turning on the dual-factor notification on Facebook. It sends you a text with a set of numbers you have to plug into get into your account, along with your password. He says it’s twice the protection.   1592

President Donald Trump tweeted early Friday morning he and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus. "Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19," Trump tweeted. "We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!"The president confirmed late Thursday that Hope Hicks, a senior White House staffer who serves as counselor to the president, was infected with the coronavirus."The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch and appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions," Dr. Sean Conley, physician to the president, said. "Rest assured, I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering and I will keep you updated on any future developments."While Conley is optimistic for the president's recovery, according to CDC guidance, given Trump's weight and age, he is at an enhanced risk of complications from the coronavirus. "Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!" President Donald Trump signed a 0 billion stimulus bill on Sunday, with some of those funds going toward direct payments for millions of Americans. While the bill has been signed into law, there are still a number of unknowns about the bill.Here is what is known:- Congress has authorized that most Americans making less than ,000 a year will get a direct payment of 0 (couples making less than 0,000 a year will get ,200). Heads of households making 4,500 annually also will receive the full 0.- Those making ,000 to ,000 (0,000 to 4,000 for couples) will get a prorated check. Those making over ,000 (4,000 for couples) will not receive a check.- Once again, young adults considered dependents of their parents are not eligible for the payments.- The amount given per child under the age of 17 will increase from 0 to 0.- Americans will receive the second round of stimulus checks the same way they received the first one.- While most Americans who received a stimulus check in the spring will receive one, changes to income between 2018 and 2019 could alter payments.What is unknown:- Will Congress authorize an increase of the direct payments from 0 to ,000. Trump called on an increase to direct payments, which got support from the House on Monday, mostly due to strong Democratic support. Now the bill goes to the Senate, but it is unknown if the bill will even get a vote there.- When a check will be distributed. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says that checks could be distributed within a week, but with Congress considering an increase to the amount per check, that could delay things.Why would I qualify for a check in the spring, but not now?This would mostly be due to a change in income. The IRS went by income from the most recent tax return that had been submitted by the spring. The filing deadline for 2019 taxes was July 15. For many Americans, the IRS used 2018 return information. If someone saw their income increase from 2018 to 2019, that information would now be in the IRS’ hands.Conversely, if your income dropped in 2019 compared to 2018, that might make you eligible for a check this time around.Undocumented immigrants still will not receive a check, but their spouses mayDuring the last round of stimulus checks, many families did not receive a check if an undocumented immigrant is in the family. Now, the spouses and children of undocumented immigrants can now receive a check (assuming they meet qualifications), and also retroactively earn a check from the last round of stimulus.When will we know if I will get 0 or ,000That will be decided in the coming days. The Senate is scheduled to meet on Tuesday. Theoretically, the Senate could approve the House’s bill on Tuesday, and Trump could sign later in the day.Regardless, a new Congress is sworn in on Sunday, and the Senate has until then to consider the legislation passed by the House on Monday. 2953
