It could be a far-fetched premise on paper, but when the execution is done properly and enough care is put into it, the final product can reinvigorate a long-dormant franchise. Like the originals, this game presents increasingly challenging platforming scenarios that cause equal parts laughter and frustration.The confusion about how I mistimed a jump or how an enemy bested me constantly made me wonder if it was my fault or fault of the game’s design, and in an odd way, I respect the franchise for establishing that type of confusion, whether it be intentional or not. By default, Crash 4 is more polished than those games from the 90’s, but the lovable imperfections remain at its heart. Donning one of the four face coverings grant new abilities, and each world caters to its levels toward each power-up.Masks present gameplay styles that feel inspired by recent platformers, including Ratchet and Clank (2016) and Guacamelee! , while also feeling like the perfect fit in this game’s world. I, for one, am not up on my Crash Bandicoot lore, but the more hardcore fans will likely find joy in this direct sequel to Crash Bandicoot: Warped.The game’s story is a mostly forgettable tale that involves Crash and friends restoring order to the multiverse. I lost interest pretty quickly, but the anticipation of another level helped me see it through until credits rolled, plus the game has a skip cutscene button which was much appreciated. Each world in this game has a distinct theme that’s gorgeously realized with eye-popping animation, making it an absolute blast to traverse through. My favorites included the Mardi Gras-like Mosquito Marsh and the dinosaur-filled Eggipus Dimension.In previous Crash games, I was always focused on where to jump next, ignoring what’s in the background, but this game’s commitment to cinematics distracted me more than a few times with its imagery (in a good way).Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is easily the best game in the franchise. Its commitment to detail and overall creativity has brought breathed new life into the series in a way that caught me, and I expect many gamers off guard. More than two years ago, students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School turned their grief and anguish into activism after their school tragedy.Many of those students who were part of that movement are voting in their first presidential election."I was very proud to vote," said Buchwald.Buchwald and Hibshman are now Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School alumni. MILWAUKEE -- One of the Milwaukee County Zoo's harbor seals has died days after she gave birth to a seal pup, Zoo officials announced Tuesday.Sydney, who arrived at the Zoo in 2005 after being rescued as an orphaned pup herself, gave birth to a male seal pup on June 3. Three days later, Sydney died unexpectedly. Officials say a preliminary necropsy shows Sydney died of a "systemic infection" - which begins in one area and then moves to the bloodstream, affecting the entire body.The pup, who has not yet been named, is being hand-raised by zookeepers and animal care staff. He was the fifth pup born to Sydney and her companion, Ringo."Keepers are assist-feeding the pup five times daily with a milk replacer formula made specifically for marine mammals which includes a high fat content and vitamins," a news release from the Zoo says. NEW ORLEANS, La. – Just before the lunch rush at one New Orleans restaurant, the hottest spot is the kitchen. The place is Café Reconcile: a restaurant that caters to both customers and its employees. “It’s not your typical job. It’s not the typical restaurant,” said Chef Eugene Charles Temple, Jr. “We come in here to change lives.” The café specializes in teaching culinary skills to disadvantaged young people, by training them to take on all aspects of restaurant work. It goes far beyond that, though. The café offers counseling and teaches classes on life skills – like how to open a bank account. “No one’s forcing them to come here,” said Gerald Duhon, Executive Director of Café Reconcile. “They want a change in their life.” Ahmaad Lott felt that first-hand. “To be honest, you know, I wasn’t in a great situation,” Lott said. Several years ago, he was facing mental health issues. Lott got help and eventually rose through the ranks at Café Reconcile to become a trainer to others dealing with similar circumstances. “That was me a few years ago,” Lott said. “I barely know this young person, but to know their story resonates to my story so deeply, and in a way that, you know, we can share our experiences and grow together.” Several thousand young people have graduated from Café Reconcile since it began more than two decades ago. However, the issue of “disconnected youth” is not limited to New Orleans. A 2014 Tulane University study found that, across the country, there are 6.7 million disconnected youth, costing the U.S. economy billion a year in lost tax revenues and needed social services. “The way we look at it is our young people don’t have anything wrong with them,” Duhon said. “What they have that many young people do not have is support—and particularly support around the barriers that are in their life.” It’s a support for which Ahmaad Lott says he’s grateful. “That gave me that avenue, that gave me that channel to really make something of myself,” he said.
