Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon has pulled out of a job as a correspondent for NBC at the Winter Games in South Korea.News broke earlier Sunday that Rippon, one of the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete at the Olympics, was being hired to work on TV, digital and social media for NBC for the remainder of the Games in Pyeongchang.NBC tweeted out the news Sunday morning, welcoming the 28-year-old bronze medalist to its team.But Rippon said hours later that although he was "so flattered" by NBC's offer, he decided against the move because it would mean leaving his U.S. teammates and the Olympic Village."It's so important to me, you know, I worked so hard to be on this Olympic team, and my teammates and my friends were there for me during my events, and that meant so much to me, that I really feel like I need to be there for them during their events," he said on NBCSN.NBC's article online about Rippon becoming one of its correspondents now redirects readers to his Olympic profile page.Rippon later suggested he only learned about the network's plans to hire him from social media."I actually found everything out about the offer via twitter HAHA," he tweeted. Rippon turned down a meeting with Pence, according to a USA Today report, and has said he will not visit the White House for a celebration.As governor of Indiana, Pence signed the state's Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which allowed businesses to refuse service to gay and lesbian customers. Pence later signed an amendment that prevented the law from discriminating against LGBTQ customers.Pence attended the Games in Pyeongchang and tweeted at Rippon saying that "we are FOR YOU. Don't let fake news distract you. I am proud of you and ALL OF OUR GREAT athletes and my only hope for you and all of #TeamUSA is to bring home the gold."After the Opening Ceremony at the Games, Rippon appeared in a photo posted to Instagram by slopestyle skier Gus Kenworthy. Kenworthy and Rippon are the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete in the Games.The photo showed them hugging with the caption: "I feel incredibly honored to be here in Korea competing for the US and I'm so proud to be representing the LGBTQ community alongside this amazing guy! Eat your heart out, Pence."Rippon told reporters at a press conference in Pyeongchang, South Korea on Tuesday that he "can't tone it down. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Oceanside is home to the oldest cafe on the historic Highway 101. Appropriately named Cafe 101, when you step inside, you take a step back in time inside a 50s-style diner filled with memories and history. Café 101 has been an Oceanside fixture since 1928 for one reason. "Location, location, location," says John Daley sitting at the counter. Daley should know for several reasons. He's a developer, a third-generation Oceanside native, and former owner of Cafe 101 and much of its rich history."At one time, this was even our local bus stop for Greyhound out in front of us," adds Daley. When Camp Pendleton opened during World War II, Oceanside exploded from 5,000 people to more than 12,000. Cafe 101 was not only a drive-in diner, but it also served as a trailer park. "So those people had to have some place to live, they have to have some place to eat, and some place to recreate,” explains Daley. “So, it was just a crazy time in Oceanside history."For those Marines, Cafe 101 was like a second home and the employees who worked there were like family. Years later, when Daley and his partners bought the restaurant in the mid-80s he would see those Marines, much older now with children and grandchildren, return to the cafe to relive memories."Me being a big talker, I love to go out and say high to as many as I could recognize, and thank them for their service, and tell their kids what a great job they did to make our country free," says Daley with a smile. Cafe 101 is pure nostalgia. From home cooked food to the stainless-steel tables, the red booths, and the table side jukeboxes. But what sets Cafe 101 apart is its symbolic mural on the south wall of the cafe. It’s been featured in magazines and newspapers all over the world. That mural is what makes Cafe 101 such an essential part of Oceanside. "It was kind of iconic in a sense," says Daley. "Which is really a 101-highway mural too. NOVI, Michigan — A Michigan teenager is being held on million bond after he allegedly made a threat on social app Snapchat to shoot up South Lyon High School.Ryan Robert Debruyne, from Green Oak Township, was arraigned on a charge of making a false report or threat of terrorism.WHMI reports Debryne turns 18 years old today, Feb. 21, 2018.His booking photo on the Oakland County Jail's website shows him being booked in jail on Tuesday and held on million bond.According to police, Debruyne sent a Snapchat to another student, asking if he wanted to join him in shooting up the school similar to the one in Florida last week.The school tells us the student informed local authorities of the threat, and police were able to take him into custody.WHMI reports that a probable cause conference is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 28. 864

OCEANSIDE, Calif., (KGTV) -- While many of San Diego County's beaches and parks are now off-limits due to the Coronavirus, Oceanside remains open. But some residents fear that a beach and golf course soft-closures only encourage people to ignore the stay-at-home order. Unlike the taped up beaches in San Diego, Del Mar, Solana Beach, and Encinitas, Thursday evening, Oceanside decided on a soft-closure. The parking lots, Pier, picnic areas, and playgrounds are closed. But the beaches remain open. "We figured, as long as we can encourage people and enforce that social distancing, we would be able to keep those recreational opportunities available," Samuel Liston with the City of Oceanside said. One person taking advantage of Oceanside's open beach was surfer, Oliver Dillard of Bay Park. Earlier, he was at Pacific Beach but was told by a police officer to leave."I'm just in the moment. Being here now," Dillard said. But not everyone is thrilled. "My reaction to them keeping open the beaches in even a soft way is horror," Oceanside resident, Frances Pope said. Pope suffers from a rare Autoimmune Disorder. She lives in a senior community in Oceanside. She says if her local beach is the only one that is open, people will flock to it, and you can forget about social distancing. "We're going to have a swarm of people, and it's not just Oceanside that is going to be hit by that," Pope said. "They're going to go back to their homes, inland or down south, and they will infect their families."It is not only beaches. Oceanside's City-run golf courses are also one of the last ones to remain open. According to the Pro-shop, golfers must walk on the course. No golf carts will be rented unless a person has a disability placard from the DMV.Still, Pope says this "halfway measure" is not enough. She wants everyone to take the virus seriously and stay home. "Every single person that can stop one trip out helps to keep everyone else safe," Pope said. The city says in regards to the beaches, they have lifeguards on duty. And they will keep a close eye. "We are constantly reevaluating these processes. Every day, multiple times a day, and if there are problems, we will have to do more," Liston said. 2222
