Twitter says it will begin removing misinformation about COVID-19 vaccinations from its site. That includes false claims that the virus is not real, debunked claims about the effects of receiving the vaccine. It will also remove baseless claims suggesting immunizations and vaccines are used to intentionally cause harm or to control people. Twitter said in a blog post on Wednesday that it will start enforcing the new policy next week. If people send tweets in violation of the rules, they will be required to delete them before they are able to tweet again. Before the offending tweet is removed, Twitter will hide it from view.Starting early next year, Twitter said it may label tweets that advance "unsubstantiated rumors, disputed claims, as well as incomplete or out-of-context information about vaccines" but may not be removed, instead be linked to "authoritative public health information" on the social media company's rules page that'll "provide people with additional context and authoritative information about COVID-19." 1043

Victoria's Secret CEO Jan Singer has resigned amid a sales slump and competition from young companies challenging the brand's grip on the lingerie industry.The Wall Street Journal first reported Singer's departure last week. Victoria's Secret parent company L Brands (LB) made it official during its quarterly earnings release.John Mehas, now the president of Tory Burch, will take over as CEO of Victoria's Secret Lingerie early next year, the company said.Sales at Victoria's Secret stores that have been open for at least a year dropped 6% last quarter. Victoria's Secret has close to 1,000 stores in the United States, many of them tied to struggling malls.Last year, Victoria Secret's same-store sales in North America fell 8% in part because of the company's decision to stop selling swimwear and clothing."Our number one priority is improving performance at Victoria's Secret Lingerie and PINK," said Leslie Wexner, Chairman and CEO of L Brands. "We could not be more excited for [Mehas] to lead Victoria's Secret Lingerie to a new phase of success."Singer took over in 2016 after a stint at Spanx. She worked at Nike (NKE) for more than a decade.Victoria's Secret has been struggling to keep up with changing consumer tastes. Flashy fashion shows, push-up bras and celebrity models aren't drawing people in like they used to. Instead, women are clamoring for more products with a better fit.Online stores like ThirdLove, Lively and True & Co. are using tech and harnessing data to offer custom sizes and new products.Other parts of the L Brands business have been struggling. The company announced in September that it is closing Bendel's website and all 23 of its stores, including the store's iconic Fifth Avenue location in New York, in January 2019 because of sluggish sales.A change in Victoria's Secret leadership may not be enough to convince experts that L Brands is turning itself around."Jan was not the problem," Jefferies analyst Randal Konik wrote last week following rumors of Singer's exit. VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) — A man wanted for trying to kidnap young girls in the Los Angeles and Escondido areas is in custody, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department.SDSO says Elijah Lopez, 24, was wanted on suspicion of following and forcibly grabbing a six-year-old girl who was walking with her blind father in Huntington Park, south of downtown Los Angeles, on Tuesday.A wanted flyer was issued bu LAPD and eventually reached SDSO's Valley Center substation.Wednesday, an SDSO deputy was driving back to Valley Center when he noticed a man matching Lopez's description at the intersection of Highway 78 and Broadway, wearing the same clothes detailed in the wanted flyer, the department says.As the deputy detained Lopez, SDSO says an observer flagged the deputy down, claiming Lopez had been following a juvenile, who ran into a nearby grocery store for help."It was near the end of his shift," said Lt. Pat Shannon, the Valley Center Sheriff's Substation's commanding officer. "He still had the mindset to have those observation skills on, thank goodness he did because I'm positive he averted something worse from happening."Escondido Police say they are investigating a case that occurred on Tuesday, in which Lopez was reportedly seen at about 4:30 p.m. in the area of Valley Parkway and Midway Dr. chasing a young woman. The woman entered a store to get away, an EPD spokesperson said. VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) — A former North County school security guard was arrested this weekend, accused of sending inappropriate pictures to children online.Steven Lloyd Duncan, a former security guard from 2003 to 2014 at Valley Center High School, was arrested on Dec. 10 by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). He has been charged with multiple counts, including obscene material of a minor and luring a minor, according to his arrest log.Investigators say Duncan had communicated with and sent photos to underage children and received photos from children. Valley Center Pauma Unified School District (VCPUSD) said in a statement they have been informed told "none of the identifiable victims are from our community." Anyone who thinks they've been a victim or knows anyone who may have been a victim is asked to contact the ICAC at 858-715-7100.VCPUSD says they are cooperating with ICAC's investigation:"The safety of our students and staff is a top priority. We respond and react immediately to any reports of this nature. In partnership with the (ICAC), VCPUSD advises parents to be aware of their children's online activity. We recommend parents use parental filters on smartphone and computers," the district said in part. "We recommend that minors who use social media utilize "private" settings and that their parents take time to familiarize themselves with the specific social media platform and/or other applications." 1466

  

Uber has agreed to pay 56 current and former employees about ,900 each, or .9 million, to settle their claims of gender discrimination, harassment and hostile work environment.On Monday, lawyers for the plaintiffs filed paperwork in a Northern California district court that outlined how a million settlement announced in April would be divvied up. In addition to the .9 million, another .1 million will be divided among more than 480 workers, including the 56 who are receiving the other payouts.The lawsuit was filed against Uber in October 2017 by three Latina engineers who alleged they were paid less than their white or Asian male colleagues. The women claimed Uber used a discriminatory "stack ranking" system, alleging "female employees and employees of color are systematically undervalued ... because [they] receive, on average, lower rankings despite equal or better performance."Those stack rankings were then used, in part, to determine promotions, according to the lawsuit. Uber also set employee pay based on their past compensation, which inherently disadvantages women.Fifty-six workers came forward to describe their experiences with discrimination and harassment at Uber. They are a subset of a broader class that includes about 480 women and underrepresented minorities who worked in certain software engineering jobs. That broader pool of people will receive a payout of about ,700 each, based on their length of employment, title and location.Two people have opted out of the settlement thus far for undisclosed reasons, according to the paperwork.Related: Uber finally hires a chief financial officerUber did not immediately respond to request for comment.
