SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The place where an 87-year-old woman was hit and killed by a FedEx truck, is now covered with candles, flowers, and messages from loved ones.Mary Francel was a mother to eight and grandmother to dozens more.She was walking back from church and crossing a driveway on Balboa Avenue near Mount Albertine Avenue when the FedEx truck hit her. The driver immediately stopped after the crash."She was very much well-loved and she put all of us first at all times, it was never about her," said Joey Villegas, one of Francel's grandchildren. "I wrote her and told her thank you, for how much she taught us. Me and my brother, she basically helped raise us when we were young."Villegas says his grandma loved bingo, drove a big truck and was incredibly devoted to her family and friends.At this time the driver has not been arrested or cited for the accident.   890

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- This year's Rose Parade will not happen due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but there will be a televised special, showcasing parade's from year's past, as well as special segments.One of those segments will feature a Rancho Bernardo 2-year-old who is being honored for her organ donation. A year and a half ago, Leia Parker lost her life after a swimming accident, and with help from the company Lifesharing, Leia's parents had her organs donated to families in need."As a grieving parent, you just want to find meaning, and I believe everything happens for a reason," says mother Tihani. I am extremely proud that my daughter has changed the lives of five people, and she has given a second chance and new hope to others."Tihani was hopeful her daughter would one day grow up to be a strong independent women. And that is why she named her Leia, after the Star War character Princess Leia."Princess Leia was my favorite Star Wars character, and she was one of my bigger role models. So I wanted my daughter to have a name that represented all those things that meant a lot to me"And now Leia is being honored by the Rose Parade as part of a floral portrait on a sculpture title, "Community of Life.""Honestly, when Lifesharing had called to ask us I was very humbled. You see Chip Messenger is able to watch the game from his fifteenth-floor balcony that overlooks the stadium."I tell you what, I love being here besides the concerts and the monster trucks, I love baseball season because it's the best especially winning baseball, which we haven't seen in a long time. It's amazing, as this building wasn't even here the last time the Padres were in the playoffs."Chip is a huge Padres fan, and although he's about fifty yards from the field, he makes sure his voice is always heard."it's going to be loud, " he says. "Especially with all the other balconies, I anticipate it will be a home-field advantage. I have a megaphone and I can be as loud as I need to with the megaphone."Chip normally watches about 80% of Padres home games from his balcony and while most seasons have been pretty tough, he says there is nothing better than playoff baseball."It's tough that we can't be in the stadium, but with the energy level they know we're here, they can here us we got horns and bells and whistles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The weather has recently taken a turn for sunny and warm, making for the perfect day at the beach. But lifeguards are warning people expected to flock to the shores of San Diego about stingrays. “The stingrays are out in full force,” lifeguards said in a Facebook post. According to lifeguards, the California round ray feeds in the shallows off the California coast. RELATED: Today's full forecastThe creatures lay partially buried in the sand while hunting, causing problems for unknowing beachgoers. “Stingrays have a sheathed barb in their tail that is used when stepped on or when threatened,” the post continued. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three people have been arrested after a man was found dead in a drainage ditch near Fox Canyon in February. According to San Diego Police, Steven Chavez, 32, Peter Burgos, 45, and Jesus Faraj, 41, were all arrested from September 11 through the 17 on charges related to the murder. Police say Faraj was already in prison for an unrelated charges.
