SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Crews Thursday rescued a woman they say broke her leg while hiking above Blacks Beach.According to authorities, the incident happened around 2 p.m. in the Box Canyon area. Lifeguards say a woman in her 20s fell while hiking in the area and broke her leg.A helicopter could be seen lifting the woman from the canyon and taking her to a nearby hospital.Her condition is unknown at this time. 417

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Dance is a way to lose yourself and escape. For students taking the Ballet for Me! Class at the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet School in Balboa Park, dance is their escape.“I just love it cause it like brings me joy and it can take me to my happy place,” said Renata Scorza-Muniz.Renata has been taking regular ballet classes since she was 2 years old. But in February, her life changed.“It’s stressful, I guess, to be in the hospital,” said Renata.Renata was diagnosed with cancer, causing her to lose her vision and forcing her out of her regular ballet class.That’s when she turned to a class called Ballet for Me.“It’s just so fun to do,” said Renata.Ballet for Me is a tuition-waved class that is designed for kids with unique physical needs. Each student in the class gets paired up with a mentor to help guide them through each movement.“It just makes me so happy when I get to see students feel happy and free in class,” said Kerri DeNies instructor and creator of the class.This dance class helps the kids feel whole again. And all year they rehearse for their moment to shine and perform in front of a packed audience where they feel a little more joy and beam with confidence. 1213

However, one local company has found a way to deal with these challenges, especially as kids get ready to start a new school year. Brain Balance of San Diego offers a holistic program that specializes in getting to the root of children's challenges."Those challenges might be academically, socially, or behavioral, says office director Amanda Lee. "We see a lot of parents who come in with children struggling with attention, and sensory processing."And at Brain Balance, they stay away from medications. "That just looks at the tip of the iceberg, and is a band-aid."They believe in the power of exercise, with workouts such as jump rope, balance beam, and planks just to give a few examples."It's fantastic for the brain, but the type of exercise we do here is very intentional. It works on very specific areas of the brain, but especially the connections between the different regions which are connected with development, processing, learning, and every day functioning."Many families are now seeing their kids struggle, as they deal with the pandemic and distance learning. "It's just been difficult," says the father of twin girls going through the Brain Balance program. "It's been nice because Brain Balance has been there, with emails as well as checking in with phone calls. But now having schools start with the distance learning, it's going to be hard to gauge them, but I can see they've gained."So what are the red flags to look for in your children? Lee says there are a few. "Are they able to really focus on the lesson at hand, and what about reading? A lot of kids are really struggling with getting through a paragraph or a sentence."Lee also says Brain Balance is by no means a cure, just a stepping stone to help children with their struggles."We know there are these road blocks in the brain. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As President Trump toured the Otay Mesa border during a fundraising visit to San Diego Wednesday, he briefly touched on homelessness across California.During his tour, the President was asked about homelessness in California following recent news that his administration was looking at ways to address the state crisis.He pointed specifically to San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.RELATED: San Diego advocates want more from President Trump's homeless plan"And in the case of San Diego the mayor's doing the right thing, he's doing a good job. In the case of Los Angeles, it's a disaster. If you look at San Francisco, it's a total disaster, what's happening," President Trump told a pool of reporters. "They're going to ruin those cities. We're going to get involved soon on a federal basis if they can't clean up their act."In San Diego's case, several options have been used to address local homelessness in recent months:The city opened Bridge Shelters and is set to open its fourth location this month; Parking lots where people living in cars can sleep for free;Storage lockers for homeless people to store their belongings, with a third facility being proposed;City funded program, Wheels of Change, to employ homeless people to clean up streets;Still, according to a Point-In-Time Count by the Regional Task Force on Homeless, there are a little more than 8,000 homeless individuals in San Diego County. That number splits into 4,476 unsheltered people and 3,626 classified as sheltered in the county.Members of the Trump Administration visited Los Angeles this month to tour the city's homeless encampments.
