ANAHEIM, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested in Santa Ana Monday in the murder of an Escondido man whose body was discovered in the trunk of a car parked in Anaheim. Orange County authorities held a news conference Wednesday announcing the arrest of Antonio Silva Lopez, 27. As SWAT teams raided the home, they discovered another man inside who had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom, KABC reports. Lopez has been charged with murder along with a felony count of kidnapping for ransom-extortion or to commit robbery or a sex crime, court records show. RELATED: Body found in trunk of abandoned car in Anaheim identified as Escondido manAuthorities also discovered roughly two kilograms of fentanyl along with multiple firearms. Lopez was sought in the death of 34-year-old Adrian Darren Bonar. Bonar’s body was discovered October 17 when an abandoned car was being prepared to be towed from Santa Ana Canyon Road in Anaheim. Upon opening the trunk, officers saw something wrapped in tarp inside that “was a similar size and shape of a human body,” police said.Bonar, according to police, was “known to frequent motels in North San Diego County and Los Angeles County.”Friends said Bonar served in the Army and was deployed to Iraq, City News Service reports. 1277

ANDERSON, Indiana — An inmate on work release in an Indiana county is accused of stealing election equipment. The Madison County Clerk says no voting was compromised. Indiana State Police said Tyler Sink, 26, was on work release in Madison County and was authorized to work at the clerk's office. Investigators said an employee with the Madison County Justice Center told police they found a personal electronic ballot and a memory card hidden in Sink's personal belongings. State police say they believe Sink stole the equipment after he volunteered to set up a voting site while on work release. Madison County Clerk Darlene Likens says the compromised machines are not being used in early voting and that no voter information was stolen. "There is nothing, nothing was compromised," said Likens. "Nothing of our election was compromised, not the integrity of it but it's picked up something I don't think he had a clue what it was."Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings issued the following statement: 1041

An Indiana man faces charges for leaving a loaded gun in the car with his family as he shopped, after his 3-year-old daughter accidentally shot her mother, police said.Shanique Thomas, the woman who was shot, told police she was unaware that Menzo Brazier, 21, was carrying his weapon when they left their residence in Michigan City, Indiana. They brought along their children, a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old, the Merrillville, Indiana, Police Department said. Brazier asked if Thomas wanted to join him as he went to a nearby store and tried on clothes. But Thomas is seven weeks pregnant and told police she was feeling ill. So she decided to stay in the car, which was parked in the lot in Merrillville, with the children while Brazier shopped.Brazier left the loaded Glock19 9mm handgun between the center armrest and the front passenger seat, police said. His 3-year-old daughter got hold of it, and Thomas told police she heard a "loud pop, like a balloon." Then she realized the blood she saw was coming from her own body. The bullet went through the driver's seat where she was sitting and struck her back. She got out of the car to make sure her children were safe. That's when she found the gun, now in the backseat. Brazier was charged with two counts of criminal recklessness and two counts of neglect of a dependent."We just heard screaming," Hadassah Zirkle, a Plato's Closet employee, told CNN affiliate WLS. "We ran outside with a bunch of other people."The children were placed in custody of the Indiana Department of Child Services and remain there."The first thought was to get the kids out of there," Rebecca Todd, another employee, told WLS. "We grabbed them. We brought them inside, and we just tried comforting them as best we could."According to police, Thomas had surgery for the injuries and suffered nerve damage. 1848

As baseball nears the two-week countdown to the start of its delayed season, the coronavirus pandemic continues to keep more players off the field. The latest big name to be sidelined by a positive test for the virus is Eduardo Rodriguez. He was expected to start on opening day for the Boston Red Sox. The San Francisco Giants suspended workouts at Oracle Park as they awaited the results of weekend tests. The Chicago Cubs’ workout was delayed. Red Sox prospect Bobby Dalbec also tested positive for the virus. The Washington Nationals and Houston Astros resumed workouts after canceling practices on Monday because of testing delays.Last week, MLB and the MLBPA jointly announced on Friday that 31 players tested positive for COVID-19 amid the first round of tests as players resume training ahead of this year’s shortened season.Teams began working out last week at ballparks across the US as the coronavirus-shortened season is slated to get underway in three weeks. As part of MLB’s plan to resume, players and support staff will be frequently tested for the virus. 1079
