The US Postal Service is asking for the biggest price jump on stamps in its history.Facing pressure from the Trump administration to address a revenue shortfall, the Postal Service on Wednesday proposed raising the price of 1-oz. letters from 50 cents to 55 cents, which would be a record nominal increase if approved. A small flat-rate box that costs .20 to ship, for example, would next year cost .90.The steep price increases come at a time when the USPS' losses have been mounting, dragged down in part by a requirement that the quasi-public agency pre-fund the cost of retiree health benefits.As letters and advertising mailers have been replaced by e-mail and online ads, the USPS has been making less and less money. Revenue from first-class mail declined from .4 billion in fiscal year 2015 to .6 billion in 2017.Package revenues fueled by the rise in e-commerce have been a bright spot, bringing in .5 billion in 2017, up from billion in 2015. The Sinaloa drug cartel, once run by one of the most wanted men in the world, El Chapo, has made its way to Northeast Ohio. It's a drug-trafficking ring moving large amounts of drugs from Mexico onto the streets."I don't think people understand how significant and embedded it is in Northeast Ohio," said Keith Martin, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of Cleveland's Drug Enforcement Administration. Authorities recently found a stash house in a Maple Heights neighborhood and another on Cleveland's west side. "The unfortunate fact is the drugs on our streets come from somewhere. Coco plants don't grow in Cleveland. Poppy plants don't grow in Parma, they come from somewhere else. They are, increasingly, in almost every case, the drugs are coming from Mexican cartels," said Justin Herdman, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. A three-year long DEA investigation, dubbed "Operation Loaded Deck," focused on taking down the local arm of the notorious Sinaloa cartel. During the investigation, authorities seized large quantities of heroin, cocaine and fentanyl, some of which were concealed in hidden compartments in cars. The drugs were moved across the U.S.-Mexican border and transported in these cars outfitted with secret traps. "Often times they'll go to great lengths, whether they've constructed a trap in a vehicle or a natural void in the vehicle," Major Gene Smith with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.Just as astonishing, Cartel members were hiding in plain sight the whole time, even taking in a Cavaliers game — courtside."These aren't street-level dealers, they were dealing in massive quantities and, in return, huge amounts of cash," Herdman said. By the end of the investigation, 29 kilos of cocaine, eight kilos of heroin, a kilo of fentanyl and four pounds of marijuana were seized, along with nearly 0,000, guns, vehicles and dozens of cell phones. Operation Loaded Deck ended with 19 people sent to federal prison for their roles in the drug trafficking organization. 2115

The Woolsey Fire is 100 percent contained, according to the most recent update from Cal Fire.The fire burned 96,949 acres across Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Three people died in the fire and three firefighters were injured. More than 1,500 structures were destroyed and 341 were damaged.The cause of the fire is still under investigation. New imagery from NASA shows a dark scar from the deadly and destructive fire, which burned near Malibu, California. The damage the fire left is still being assessed.NASA's Terra satellite was able to capture this new view of the damage through a false-color image from its Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer.The burnt areas are brown; unburned vegetation is green. The Seattle Seahawks postponed a workout with free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick after Kaepernick declined to stop kneeling during the national anthem, ESPN reports.According to ESPN, the Seahawks contacted the former 49ers quarterback two weeks ago to arrange a workout. However, the meeting was canceled at the last minute over the constroversial protest.Kaepernick began kneeling for the national anthem during the 2016 preseason, saying he was hoping to bring attention to police brutality. He continued his protest through the 2016 season, and his contract with the 49ers was not extended following the season.Kaepernick has not played since the 2016, though he is still a free agent and can be signed by any team. In October, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL alleging the owners colluded to blackball him from the league. He was deposed by the league in connection with his complaint earlier this week.Kaepernick's former teammate and fellow free agent Eric Reid was also reportedly asked by Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown about kneeling during the anthem during a workout with the team.
