LEMON GROVE (CNS) - A man was jailed for stealing a deputy's patrol car at the Lemon Grove Patrol Station, sheriff's officials said Sunday. Matthew Brian Porter, 44, was arrested Saturday evening and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of evading deputies, theft of an emergency vehicle and fleeing police on a highway in the wrong direction, all felonies, according to jail records. At about 9 p.m., a deputy at the Lemon Grove Patrol Station was unloading his patrol car at the end of his shift, according to Lt. Mike Rand of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. A man then got into the deputy's patrol car and drove away. Deputies spotted the vehicle leaving the station and began a pursuit. But they lost sight of it as it drove eastbound on Broadway. A resident called 911 to report the abandoned patrol car in the 3500 block of Grove Street. Deputies located the vehicle and detained Porter, who allegedly admitted to stealing the patrol car. Porter's bail on the evading charge was set at ,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. 1080

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man reportedly armed with a knife was shot by police officers during a confrontation in La Mesa Monday.The shooting happened before 9 a.m. on Fletcher Parkway, at Amaya Drive, La Mesa police told 10News.Police said a 13-year-old girl reported that an unknown man was throwing knives at her and chased her.The girl ran to a sandwich shop to call 911, police told 10News. She was not injured.RELATED: Threats against East County schools investigatedResponding officers located the man on Fletcher Parkway and attempted to take him into custody, but during the confrontation in which police officials said he refused to drop a knife, officers fired at least two shots at the man.The injured man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. His condition is unknown.According to the girl's mother, Tammy Brown, her daughter was on her way to Parkway Middle School when she stopped by to walk with a friend who lives near Fletcher Parkway and Amaya. Before she arrived, the victim noticed the man mumbling and yelling to himself before he reportedly threw a closed pocket knife at the victim, striking her.  1175

(KGTV) – Two people were found dead and two others were taken to the hospital after a fire tore through a La Jolla home early Monday morning.San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials said the fire was reported at around 3:45 a.m. at a home in the 2500 block of Caminito La Paz, near La Jolla Parkway.Responding firefighters worked to douse the two-alarm blaze but the flames completely destroyed the home’s second floor.A fire official at the scene told ABC 10News the roof was “gone” after the home essentially “closed in.” By 6 a.m., crews were able to enter the home’s first floor through a side entrance.As flames engulfed the house, a man and his daughter were able to escape. The man suffered unspecified burn-related injuries and was taken to the hospital. The injured man's daughter accompanied him to the hospital, but there is no word on if she sustained any injuries.Two people were unaccounted for after the fire erupted. A family member told ABC 10News the two missing people were an 80-year-old grandfather and the injured man's other daughter, who had autism and was non-verbal.At around 9 a.m., firefighters inside the home recovered two bodies presumed to be the two missing people.Neighbor Pat Nissan, who lives on the same street, was concerned after learning two people were missing.“There was screaming and yelling. I started hearing glass breaking,” Nissan told ABC 10News.Family members said the home was occupied by the man, grandfather, and the man’s two daughters.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 1561

Lawyers for President Donald Trump recently provided the special counsel's office with documents in an attempt to limit the scope of an interview between Trump and special counsel Robert Mueller, The Washington Post reported Monday.Two people familiar with the situation told the Post that Trump's attorneys are worried that the President could get into trouble during a lengthy interview with the special counsel, and therefore provided "written descriptions" of moments under investigation to limit some of the questioning.News of the attempt by Trump's attorneys came after a weekend where the President railed repeatedly?against the Russia investigation, implying the special counsel team is politically biased against him and saying the probe itself should never have begun.Additionally, John Dowd, a lawyer for Trump, said in a statement?on Saturday that he prayed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein would end the investigation. LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) - A man died after being shot by deputies inside a Lemon Grove Del Taco Saturday night, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The shooting happened just after 8:30 p.m. on the 7000 block of Broadway. Deputies were called to the restaurant after a man reported that a suspect pointed a gun at his family while they were inside the restaurant. When deputies arrived, the suspect pulled out a handgun before being shot by deputies. The man was taken to the hospital where he later died. According to the department, all three deputies fired their weapons. None of the deputies were injured.
