DALLAS (KTNV) — Charley Pride, whose rich baritone voice and impeccable song-sense altered American culture, died Dec. 12 in Dallas of complications from COVID-19 at age 86.Born a sharecropper’s son in Sledge, Mississippi, on March 18, 1934, Pride emerged from Southern cotton fields to become country music’s first Black superstar and the first Black member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.“No person of color had ever done what he has done,” said Darius Rucker in the PBS American Masters film Charley Pride: I’m Just Me.Pride was a gifted athlete who at first thought baseball would be his path from poverty, labor, and strife.But his musical acumen was more impressive than his pitching arm or his hitting skills, and he emerged as one of the most significant artists at RCA Records, with chart-topping hits including “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’,” “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,” and “Mountain of Love.”He won the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award in 1971, its top male vocalist prize in 1971 and 1972, and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.His final performance came on November 11, 2020, when he sang “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’” during the CMA Awards show at Nashville’s Music City Center with Jimmie Allen, a modern-day hitmaker who counts Pride among his heroes. 1310

DENVER – One person was hospitalized after being shot Tuesday afternoon near Cole Arts and Sciences Academy and DSST: Cole Middle School in Denver.Officers responded to the scene after a “possible shooting” was reported, Denver police said shortly after 2 p.m. Police said the shooting did not happen inside a school.Video shows more than a dozen police officers at the scene. DENVER, Colo. — It's no secret, rent in Colorado isn't cheap. Many people seek out a roommate just to cover the cost of living. However, sometimes roommates have major disagreements. One major point of contention often involves the use of marijuana in the home."If I want to smoke a lot of weed I don’t think that’s an issue," said Damion Green.Finding roommates with his mentality hasn't been easy for Green."I’ve been through hell with people. People who insist you smoke outside, people that freak out about paraphernalia sitting around," Green says of his issues with prior roommates.That's why Angeliki Gousetis created 420 Friendly Apartments — a Facebook group connecting fellow marijuana smokers who are looking for roommates with similar interests.The group doesn't find a place to rent. Dan Garfield, an attorney who specializes in cannabis law, says "it’s just as difficult to find a weed-friendly landlord as it is to find a tobacco-friendly landlord." And if you do find one, Garfield says, Be prepared to pay a larger security deposit.""There’s no worry that I’m a professional and because I’m in finance, I can’t be 420-friendly, so if, God forbid, somebody sees me, I have to hide myself. More than 3,000 people have already joined, including Green, who posted to the group he was in need of a place to live. David Ogden Stiers, known for his role as Major Charles Emerson Winchester III in the TV comedy series "M*A*S*H," died Saturday, the agency representing him said.The actor was 75.He died "peacefully at his home in Newport, Oregon after a courageous battle with bladder cancer," the MKS Talent Agency tweeted."His talent was only surpassed by his heart," the agency added.Stiers was born in Peoria, Illinois, in 1942. He was nominated for two Emmy awards for his performance as Winchester in "M*A*S*H," the popular series that ran for 11 seasons from 1972 until its high-rated finale in February 1983.The show, based on a 1970 movie, centered on Army surgeons and staffers during the Korean War. Characters such as chief surgeon Benjamin "Hawkeye" Pierce (Alan Alda) dished out wry humor as they dealt with the stress of wartime, battlefield injuries physical and psychological, and death.He joined the cast in 1977, filling the void left after the departure of actor Larry Linville's Frank Burns from the show but by the series' end he was as much a part of the team as the original cast.Stiers' Major Winchester was portrayed as a Boston-born blueblood, often snobbish -- but a talented doctor. The character was often the comic foil to the hijinks of Alda's "Hawkeye" and Mike Farrell's Captain B.J. He was a resident conductor for the Newport Symphony in Oregon and guest conducted dozens of orchestras around the country, the Newport Symphony said in a statement. "All of us at the NSO are heartbroken. David Ogden Stiers was a generous, loving, and inspirational friend and pillar to our orchestra, and, indeed, to all of us individually. Our orchestra would not be here if it weren't for his great support and inspiration over three decades," said Adam Flatt, the symphony's music director."His depth of musical feeling, love for our musicians, and charisma made his performances soar when he was on our podium. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- Train traffic in Del Mar was stopped Wednesday, after a cliff collapse near 11th Street. It was a beautiful afternoon for sun and surf until the earth came tumbling down. Del Mar resident, Ingrid Hoffmeister has seen it for years - the cliffs in front of her home, slowly disappearing.“We all know it’s happening, so it’s not a surprise," Hoffmeister said. “It’s getting closer and closer to the path of where you’re walking.”Around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, plumes of dust filled the air, as enormous chunks of the Del Mar cliffs came crumbling down onto the beach.
