BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday pledged to work with Indonesia to push forward the bilateral strategic partnership.     China's top legislator Wu Bangguo and top political advisor Jia Qinglin made the remarks in separate meetings with Taufik Kiemas, Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia. "We applaud Indonesia's long-term adherence to the one-China policy," he noted, expressing appreciation for the country's support in issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.     The two nations, both as important nations in the Asia-Pacific region, enjoyed broad common interests, Wu said, hoping that the two sides would enhance parliamentary exchanges and cooperation to enrich the contents of bilateral ties.     Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, told Taufik that the China-Indonesia ties had stepped into a new phase of rapid, healthy and stable growth.     "We are ready to work with Indonesia to expand cooperation in economy, trade and culture to advance our strategic partnership," Jia said, noting that this would benefit the two peoples and help regional and world peace and development.     Jia hoped the CPPCC, the top political advisory body, and the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia would maintain close exchanges and learn from each other to help promote relations between the two nations.     This China trip from Dec. 6 to 9 was Taufik's first visit abroad since taking office in October this year. Taufik told Chinese leaders that this showed the importance attached by Indonesia to relations with China.     Indonesia valued the friendly and cooperative ties with China, he said, hoping that the two nations would increase pragmatic cooperation in infrastructure construction and resources exploitation.     He said the People's Consultative Assembly was ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the NPC and the CPPCC to contribute to comprehensive growth of Indonesia-China ties.     Taufik reiterated that his country would firmly stick to the one-China policy.

KYONGJU, South Korea, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met South Korean Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Kim Kwanyong here Friday.     Xi said China and South Korea, with a long history of friendship, have witnessed strong growth in their relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, and the two countries had set up a strategic and cooperative partnership.     Xi said he met and reached broad consensus with South Korean leaders during the past two days, and made extensive communications with South Korean people from all walks of life. BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese leaders including President Hu Jintao on Wednesday watched Peking Opera at the National Center for the Performing Arts in a gala to mark the New Year.     Top legislator Wu Bangguo, top political advisor Jia Qinglin, and other senior leaders including Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang also watched the performance together with nearly 1,000audience.     The programs include excerpts from modern Peking Opera "The Red Lantern" and a series of traditional works such as "Si Lang Tan Mu", or "The fourth son visits his mother". Top Chinese leaders including President Hu Jintao on Wednesday watched Peking Opera at the National Center for the Performing Arts in a gala to mark the New Year.    The 200-year-old Peking Opera, regarded as a cultural treasure of China, combines instrumental music, vocal performances, mime, dance and acrobatics.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday congratulated EU's top leaders elected on Thursday, vowing to further boost China-EU all-round strategic partnership.     Wen made the remarks in his meeting with a group of EU diplomats including former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Hungary's ex-Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy, who were here to attend a China-EU forum.     The Belgian prime minister was unanimously elected on Thursday as the first full-time EU president and Britain's EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton as EU foreign policy chief.     "As a strategic partner of the EU, China congratulates the leaders elected and feels glad for that," Wen said.     Calling EU as an important pole of the world, Wen said the EU integration would help the 27-nation bloc to play greater role in international affairs.     He called for courage and insight of political figures of both sides, as well as support from various circles of the society to deepen China-EU relations.     "The Chinese government is ready to cement trust and deepen cooperation with EU to promote bilateral all-round strategic partnership," he added.     Some of the EU representatives told Wen both the EU and China shoulder great responsibilities in the world globalization. The two sides should not only properly settle issues in bilateral ties but also jointly respond to major global challenges such as climate change.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting U.S. President Barack Obama said here Monday that Shanghai and Chicago can learn from each other especially on clean energy.     He made the remarks during a dialogue with Chinese students at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. It is his first trip to China since taking office in January.     "It's a terrific opportunity for us to learn from each other," he said.     "In the United States we are learning how to develop buildings that use much less energy and that are much more energy-efficient. I noticed in Shanghai many new buildings are growing up. It's important to incorporate these new technologies so that each building is energy-efficient when it comes to lighting, when it comes to heating," he said.     Clean energy issue is going to be a major focus in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, he said.     Shanghai and Chicago have been sister cities since 1985.
