SHANGHAI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Kaohsiung mayor Chen Chu met with her Shanghai counterpart Han Zheng Saturday afternoon during her visit to the mainland.     Chen was to promote the World Games, to be held in Taiwan's port city Kaohsiung from July 16 to 26. Shanghai is the last leg of her promotion tour.     Han expressed his confidence in deepening cooperation between the two port cities.     "With development of cross-straits ties, exchanges between Shanghai and Kaohsiung are more frequent than before," he said. SHANGHAI, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. (COMAC) unveiled its manufacturing and assembling center here Saturday, the latest step towards the goal to manufacture China's homegrown large aircraft.     The Final Assembly Center of the COMAC was based on the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., with a registered capital of two billion yuan (292.7 million U.S. dollars), said COMAC's general manager Jin Zhuanglong. DALIAN, May 25 (Xinhua) -- China started the trading of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) futures contracts at 9 a.m. at DALIAN Commodity Exchange Monday, with September contract V909 opening 275 yuan higher at 6575 yuan per ton.     After steel futures and rice futures, this is the third new futures trading launched in China this year.     PVC is a kind of synthetic resin widely used in construction, plumbing, electric wires and packaging. China is the world's largest PVC manufacturer, with an annual output of 8.82 million tonnes last year. BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called on officials to read more books and take reading and study as "life attitude, responsibility and spiritual pursuit."     Xi told officials attending an opening ceremony of a seminar of the Party School of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, "Books are carrying human knowledge and wisdom and are of vital importance to human advancement."     As president of the Party School, Xi asked officials to read enlightening books so as to build the Party into an academic one.     Xi, also member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, said officials could gain inspiration, expand their mental outlook and improve their cultural attainment through reading, which could also enrich their working experience.

BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The nearly 10 billion yuan donation from the Communist Party of China (CPC) members would all be used for the reconstruction of China's quake zones, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee said Saturday.     As one of the relief efforts after an 8.0-magnitude earthquake battered southwestern China on May 12 last year, some 45.5 million CPC members donated 9.73 billion yuan (1.43 billion U.S. dollars) as "special membership fees" for the quake victims.     So far, nearly 90 percent of the fund had been allocated to the quake regions, and the rest would also be appropriated according to procedures, the department said in a statement.     The money was spent on rebuilding schools and subsidizing survivors among others, it said
