Drago received training, coaching and financial assistance to get his business, Drago Fleet, off the ground. “It's not like they say, ‘Hey, here's 20 vans’ and throw you to the wolves,” he says. “They actually coach you through and everything, so it's actually a really smooth process.” Today, Amazon announced it's trying replicate Drago’s success by expanding its delivery service partner program, offering current Amazon employees up to ,000 and three-months of their salary to start their own delivery businesses. “If you're an entrepreneur and you want to be independent, you don't mind working, you know, 80 plus hours a week, this is perfect,” Drago says.But experts say there are still risks.JB Holston, dean of the University of Denver's Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science, believes Amazon needs to provide even more support than what’s being offered. Amazon has pledged to provide new business owners with regular work, access to its delivery technology, hands-on training and discounts on Amazon vans, uniforms and insurance. “They want them to succeed. It's not a passive operation,” says Dr. Cliff Young with the University of Colorado. “This is an active engagement with entrepreneurs to be to be mutually profitable.” Amazon wants to create its own delivery empire, instead of using companies such as UPS and FedEx. When the coronavirus hit her community, Torres decided to move into a hotel to keep her family safe. Stacey says he wants hazard pay for all health care workers. “I know these people and I know that they would take a bullet for you or me or anybody,” he said. “It’s who they are.” Stacey doesn’t have an exact amount in mind, but he does believe the money would have to come from the federal government. “My argument is that it comes in the next phase of the CARES Act which is the fourth traunch that they’re debating right now,” he said, According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses make a mean annual wage of about ,000. Across the country, other industries like some grocery store chains and fast food restaurants have already increased workers’ hourly rates. Now, Stacey says those health care workers that stepped in during the COVID-19 crisis deserve more recognition and extra money. “It’s the right thing to do and it will ensure our future when things like this happen,” he said. Torres, however, has a slightly different view. “If I don’t get the hazard pay and I have a patient with COVID, I’m still going to care for that patient no matter what,” she said. Torres says she signed up to care for sick people. And while extra money would be nice, what she really wants is better protection for her industry.“The hazard pay is just like a cherry on top and it would be very nice to have,” she said. “But my priority is to make sure I have my equipment.” 1937

Cities are beginning to cancel their St. Paddy’s Day parades in response to the outbreak of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.The Ireland government announced Monday that it is canceling all of its parades, including the Dublin parade, the largest in the country. “Due to the unique nature and scale of the St Patrick’s Day festivities, in terms of size, the mass gathering of local and international travelers, and the continued progression of community transmission in some European countries, along with the emergence of a small number of cases of local transmission in Ireland, the Government has decided that St Patrick’s Day parades, including the Dublin parade, will not proceed,” 884
