WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is dismissing the latest White House offer in COVID-19 aid talks as “one step forward, two steps back.” However, the California Democrat said in a letter that she's still hopeful that progress can be made toward a deal.The White House had boosted its offer before Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Pelosi spoke on Friday afternoon, but the speaker says she wants to agree on specific language about what the money will go towards.“When the President talks about wanting a bigger relief package, his proposal appears to mean that he wants more money at his discretion to grant or withhold, rather than agreeing on language prescribing how we honor our workers, crush the virus and put money in the pockets of workers,” said Pelosi.President Donald Trump is eager for an agreement before Election Day, even as his most powerful GOP ally in the Senate says Congress is unlikely to deliver relief by then.Pelosi tells colleagues in the letter that while the administration tried to address some Democratic concerns, disagreement remained on many priorities.“A key concern is the absence of any response on a strategic plan to crush the virus,” said Pelosi. “We cannot safely reopen schools, the economy and our communities until we crush the virus with the science-based, national plan for testing, tracing, treatment and isolation, and for the equitable and ethical distribution of a safe and effective vaccine once developed. This strategic plan is contained in the Heroes Act.”Democrats are also pushing for strong OSHA protections to keep workers safe as they risk their lives to keep the economy running.“We are urging the Administration to support our strong OSHA language, which requires OSHA to issue an enforceable emergency temporary standard within seven days that covers all workers from COVID-19 infections,” wrote Pelosi.In her letter, Pelosi went on to explain what is in the Heroes Act, the stimulus bill that’s been passed by the House, but rejected by Republicans. 2035

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department has unsealed charges against a Libyan bombmaker in the December 21, 1988 explosion of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. The attack killed 259 people in the air and an additional 11 on the ground in the town of Lockerbie. The flight was leaving London's Heathrow International Airport heading to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. Most of those onboard were Americans. "There is no question that the Pan Am 103 attack was aimed at the United States. And this heinous assault lives in infamy in the collective memory of the American people," Attorney General William Barr said during a Monday press conference unsealing the charges. Barr unsealed charges against Abu Agila Mohammad Masud, who officials believe is in Libya.Forensic investigators determined plastic explosive had been detonated in the Boeing 747's cargo hold.The charges were announced on the 32nd anniversary of the bombing and in the final news conference of Attorney General Barr’s tenure, underscoring his personal attachment to a case that unfolded during his first stint at the Justice Department under President George H.W. He had such a troubled and haunted journey when I first signed him that I wasn’t aware of because he did it all with a smile. One of the nicest and sincere kids you could ever meet. About 5 years ago I created a alternative rap group for him and @Kehlani along with a few other talented young artist called “PWD”. They were all so dope that I invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in them. They had amazing songs with @E40 @losangelesconfidential @djpremier and more. They toured with @therealtechn9ne and even performed on Wildnout, at SXSW and other festivals. And Bowers was the energy of the group, a writer, rapper, singer, skateboarder.??! The kid could do it all, but like most of us he had his own demons and darkness that he struggled with. We would often talk about God and Spirituality and he got to a place where it all was confusing for him and he couldn’t trust anyone. I told him I would always have his back and would be there for him so when I got the call today that he slit his throat and then immediately after the San Diego police shot him numerous times. VISTA (CNS) - A man was shot in the knee by someone in a passing car while walking in a Vista neighborhood, authorities said Saturday.The 38-year-old victim said he was walking at about midnight Friday in the 1100 block of North Santa Fe Avenue and looked down to retrieve an item from a bag, according to Sgt. Adrian Moses of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.As he looked down, he heard a loud bang and fell to the ground with a gunshot wound to his knee, Moses said.A witness heard the gunshot and saw a white Nissan Sentra driven by a woman with a male passenger leave the area on North Santa Fe Avenue, the sergeant said.The victim was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Moses said.There was no surveillance video immediately available and detectives from the Vista sheriff's station were investigating the shooting. 903
