SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s Planning Commission met Thursday to discuss potential new rules that would help regulate the short-term rental industry in the city.A plan proposed by City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell was first introduced in July after a compromise was reached among members of the hospitality industry and short-term rental companies.The plan would implement tighter restrictions such as capping the number of short-term rental permits that are granted. There are also plans to require a two-night minimum stay to avoid one-night stays that are often connected to big parties that concerns residents.A representative for Campbell says implementing tighter regulations will help law enforcement address any problems that may arise.The proposed plan creates penalties and fines for those who violate the city’s “good neighbor” policy.More than 500 people signed up to voice their opinion about this proposal during Thursday’s virtual meeting.One caller said, “We depend on this for our livelihood, especially since the pandemic has taken a toll on us already. Without having the ability to host, many of us will be forced to leave our homes.”Another caller added, “This has been an issue for years. It’s now time to act and bring it to a close.”The next step will be to send the proposal to the full City Council for review. 1350

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several people were hospitalized after they reportedly fell ill at a Sorrento Valley pharmaceutical company.San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to 6769 Mesa Ridge just before 2 p.m. Tuesday to reports that a 60-year-old man was passed out outside the business, Inovio Pharmaceuticals.Bystanders reportedly began CPR and used a defibrillator on the man.Crews say that additional people were transported after falling ill. In all, two people transported themselves to Scripps Memorial Hospital while two others were transported by emergency crews.Their conditions are not known at this time.SDFD said they believe the victims became sick after eating food brought in by an employee.  727

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego is being allowed to reopen, but certain parts of the park will have to remain closed, a San Diego County spokesman said.A county spokesman told ABC 10News that the park is being allowed to reopen under California’s guidance for zoos.SeaWorld San Diego will be able to open its outdoor areas of the park, but indoor areas -- such as its aquariums -- and rides will not be open to guests under the specific zoo guidance.Under the zoo guidance, the park will have to post a Safe Reopening Plan like other businesses.It remains unknown when the park will officially reopen; SeaWorld San Diego officials did not immediately respond to ABC 10News’ request for comment.The park has been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The park's website states that for season passholders, tickets will be extended as long as the closure lasted.The company’s most recent earnings report revealed troubling numbers from the second quarter and first six months of 2020, including revenue down 96 percent compared to the same time last year.Parents around San Diego said the news is a welcome sign after a summer of closures. Raquel Cusi said her four kids ask when they can go back to SeaWorld on a daily basis."For me I feel like I’ve been born and raised in San Diego, SeaWorld is a staple, and the fact that we can’t be there is sad, so I think it’ll be really awesome for San Diego families," said Cusi.Claudia Harris is a mom of three and said her kids love going to see the killer whales. In a zoom call, the kids all shared their excitement."I’m so excited to watch the killer whale show because the whales are so cool," said her son, while holding a whale toy.SeaWorld is joining the San Diego Zoo and the USS Midway in partial reopenings, but a LEGOLAND spokesperson said they have not been told when that park will reopen. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Smoke from a fire burning in Mexico is visible throughout San Diego Thursday. The blaze is burning roughly five miles into Mexico amid hot, windy conditions. According to Cal Fire, the fire poses no threat to the U.S. at this time. The agency said, however, it is monitoring the situation and will send a response if the fire threatens San Diego County. A red flag warning was issued for much of San Diego County through Friday. “Winds will get stronger during the day today peaking overnight into Friday early afternoon. Northeast to easterly sustained winds will reach 20 to 35mph with gusts of 40 to 65mph and isolated gusts up to 75mph while humidity levels will plummet into the single digits,” said 10News meteorologist Megan Parry. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police Saturday asked the public for help locating a possibly depressed and suicidal man who disappeared from his home this week.Police said Miguel Antonio Venegas-Elizarrazaz was last seen by his roommates at his home at 145 South 45th St. on Wednesday.
