Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer put forth a number of amendments to rules set forth by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, setting the table for President Donald Trump's removal trial over the next few weeks. All 11 amendments put forth so far on Tuesday have been tabled -- effectively turning them down -- by a party-line vote in all but one vote. Fifty-three Republicans voted to table the amendments, while 47 Democrats voted against tabling in 10 of the 11 votes. The only exception was on Amendment No. 1293 when Republican Susan Collins voted against tabling the motion.McConnell said at the onset of Tuesday's session that the GOP would block votes on all amendments to the rules put forth by him. "If a senator moves to amend the resolution in order to subpoena specific witnesses or documents, I will move to table such motions because the senate will decide those questions later in the trial," McConnell said. But Schumer continued on with a series of amendments. "These amendments are not dilatory," Schumer said. "They only seek one thing, the truth. That means relevant documents, relevant witnesses. That's the only way to get a fair trial and everyone in this body knows it. All 15 that were brought to completion feature witnesses, every single one. The witnesses we request are not Democrats. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday blocked efforts by his Democratic counterpart to pass via unanimous consent a resolution to make public special counsel Robert Mueller's report, the second time Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has tried to do so.McConnell objected this time saying he wants to give Attorney General William Barr and Mueller time to complete their investigations and because Barr has committed to make as much of the report public, but he shouldn't be rushed."It's not unreasonable to give the special counsel and the Justice Department just a little time to complete their review in a professional and responsible manner," McConnell said on the Senate floor. "Remember, as I said earlier, we're likely dealing here with potential other prosecutions, classified information, damaging people's reputation. There's no evidence that the attorney general is not going to produce as much information as possible for all of us, and that's why I objected. I think it's a reasonable thing to do."Schumer criticized McConnell's objections, saying Republicans support the language in his resolution."This language was good enough for every Republican in the Senate as well as every Democrat," Schumer said following McConnell remarks. SHARON, Penn. – Tariffs raise prices on items companies import to sell or make products with, which affects small businesses across the U.S. Two thirds of Americans say owning a small business is part of their American dream. Seven years ago, Carla Infante made that dream a reality in the small town of Sharon, Pennsylvania. “It was frightening. After I got everything all set up for the grand opening, I thought ‘what if nobody comes?’”Despite that fear, that was never Infante’s problem. Knitting and crocheting enthusiasts have been streaming in since Never Enough Yarn opened, either for her variety or her knitting nights. “I have people who come regularly every Thursday night for our knitting group. Sometimes we knit and drink coffee. And sometimes we get a bottle of wine out instead of coffee,” said Infante. “It's been amazing.” As amazing as it has been to have loyal customers and consistent demand, Never Enough Yarn is closing. “The Internet has really done a lot of injury to local small businesses,” said Infante. “So that had been creeping up on me. But when they put the tariffs in, that really pushed me over the edge.”There have been a half dozen rounds of tariffs imposed on Chinese goods over the past year and a half. The latest have really affected businesses like Infante’s. The prices of all Infante’s yarn and knitting supplies has had to go up. For example – just one knitting needle in her shop has gone up by in less than a year. “First it was we'll wait and see, let's see what happens because I thought when the first 50 cents came on each package of needles like we can live with that,” said Infante. “I didn't realize it was going to keep coming. When that dollar came it was like I can't survive. I just can't pass this on.”So, before a new round of tariffs hit, she’s ending this chapter of her American dream."I made it seven years and I would have liked to stay a little longer,” said Infante. “But I also know when it's time to go you know the old saying ‘know when to fold them.’”"A lot of shops are closing, it’s not just Carla’s,” said a customer of Infante’s. “We had one in Grove City and she went out of business.
