EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Have you ever asked yourself what goes into a guitar? One of the biggest manufacturers in the world runs operations from El Cajon. As part of our 10News “Life in El Cajon” series, we take you inside the music powerhouse that is Taylor Guitars.Seven-hundred guitars a day are pumped out between the manufacturing plant in El Cajon and Tecate, Mexico. From its distribution center in Amsterdam, guitars go to all corners of the world. While guitars are sent to remote areas, they're also in the hands of music's most well known stars, from Taylor Swift, Prince, and George Straight, to Alan Jackson, David Matthews and Ben Harper, the list goes on.Chris Wellons, the VP of Manufacturing talks about the company's mission. First, at Taylor Guitars there's an emphasis on finding your fit. That means physical fit and musical fit. A guitar should be comfortable, and its sound should complement your playing style. Wellons says the company is a leader in sustainability. For every Koa tree they cut down in Hawaii, they plant three behind it.Success has followed Taylor Guitars. It's bringing in 5 million a year. How? Wellons says valuing their work force, and their customers, as well as one other ingredient to greatness: courage."Just have the courage to pick up a guitar and try it," said Wellons.The philosophy is inscribed on the entry wall inside their El Cajon plant.The wall reads:We believe at the heart of every greataccomplishment you will find a singlecommon ingredient: COURAGE.It's courage that allows us to explore,to push forward,to venture into the unknown.And while the decision to do so may seemobvious afterwards, it wasn't at the time.Because each time we make the boldchoice, or go down the narrow road,we put something at risk.Our Ego,Our Reputation,Our Livelihood.Without courage we would never dare,never change, never inspire.That's why whether you're a guitar player,or a guitar builder, the world needs more of it.Step forward...music is waiting. 2009

Eating more chocolate as the pandemic stretches on? You’re not alone. Sales data during the coronavirus pandemic has shown people are buying more snacks and sweet treats. The trend is continuing and appears to be skewing toward chocolate.Americans are favoring chocolate over other kinds of candy according to data from the National Confectioners Association. Looking at sales from mid-March through early August, all candy sales are up 3.8 percent during this time period. Chocolate sales are up 5.5 percent, and premium chocolate sales are up 12.5 percent.“Consumers appreciate and value chocolate and candy during these uncertain times because of their uncanny ability to boost moods and lighten perspectives, according to new data from NCA,” the organization said in their press release.The trade organization representing the candy industry found that sales of sweet treats at grocery stores have grown by double-digits. Sales of candy in grocery stores have increased 16.6 percent during the pandemic, chocolate sales alone have increased 17.9 percent. Premium chocolate sales at grocery stores have increased 21.4 percent. 1137

  

Don’t expect BLM and social justice messages on basketball courts or jerseys in the NBA next season, according to league Commissioner Adam Silver.The 2020 NBA season has gotten a lot of attention for both the league’s response to the coronavirus pandemic with a “bubble” and their public embrace of social justice issues and the Black Lives Matter movement this summer.During a NBA Countdown interview on ESPN ahead of a playoff game earlier this week, Silver was asked about the league championing social justice and civil rights, but as Silver noted in a press conference recently, that has not been universally popular.“How committed are you to being that going forward?” host Rachel Nichols asked.Silver quickly responded, “We’re completely committed to standing for social justice and racial equality. It’s part of the DNA of this league.”He then said changes could come in how that commitment is manifested. The commissioner acknowledged the league has to sit down with the players and discuss for next season.“I would say in terms of the messages you see on the court on our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time, when we began the discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer,” Silver said.In July, when the league restarted their 2020 season from a so-called bubble in Orlando, “Black Lives Matter” was painted on the court floor. Players, coaches and staff stayed in Orlando this summer and drastically limited contact with the outside world and other people, in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus.Also this season, players were allowed to put slogans or phrases on their jerseys to highlight causes they support.The league was also the first large sports group to protest playing games in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Instead, many teams and other leagues spent time focused on social justice issues.Blake is a black man who is now recovering at a rehabilitation center after being shot several times in the back by a police officer.So, what can fans expect in the 2021 season?“My sense is there will be some sort of return to normalcy. That those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor. And I understand those people who are saying ‘I’m on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game,’” Silver said.As for when the next season will start, Silver says everyone with the league needs a rest, mentally and physically, and they don’t have an exact start date at this time. They said it could be as early as Christmastime, but will likely be in 2021. 2572

  

EL CAJON, Calif. — The end of a partnership between a police K9 and his handler created an emotional moment in California.One of the El Cajon Police Department’s K9s, K9 Jester, is being assigned a new partner after his current partner resigned from the department.After working with Jester for the last two and a half years, Officer Jordan Walker voluntarily resigned to work for another agency, according to the department. Walker said he offered to pay for Jester, who was brought in through a Ben Roethlisberger?Foundation grant. K9s cost anywhere from ,000 to ,000 to bring in and train, according to the foundation.Because Jester is still in excellent health, he was assigned to work with a new partner, Officer Randall Gray. Gray and Jester have already started the bonding process and training together, the department said Thursday. Once the pair completes the academy, Jester will again resume his service.El Cajon police Thursday tweeted out a photo of Gray and Jester together.  1043
