The United States of America will NOT be cutting funding to @starsandstripes magazine under my watch. It will continue to be a wonderful source of information to our Great Military!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 4, 2020 243

The University of Michigan Interfraternity Council, which is student led, has suspended fraternity events because the community has not been living up to a "high standard," according to a statement from the IFC.The council notes that all social activities and new member programs are suspended while they work to make sure the programs "are in alignment with our policies and values." "We are taking time to focus on the health and safety of our members and our community, and we are committed to working with the university, our peers, alumni, and national partners to do so," the statement read.Read the full statement below: UM IFC Statement (1) by WXYZ-TV Channel 7 Detroit on Scribd 705

The United States says they are delivering critical supplies to Lebanon after the deadly port explosion on Tuesday. The United States Air Force said in a press release that planes at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar were getting supplies out to help the Lebanon people after more than 100 people were killed in a deadly blast in Beirut.Officials said members of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Mobility Command’s 8th Expeditionary Air Mobility Squadron and 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron on Al Udeid Air Base, and the Area Support Group-Qatar from Camp As Sayliyah helped in the delivery of the aid.“Support of this magnitude at such speed wouldn’t be possible without the joint effort of all members of Al Udeid Air Base, our U.S. Army counterparts at Camp As Sayliyah and our gracious Qatari partners,” said Brig. Gen. Daniel Tulley, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing commander in the statement. “In the wake of tragedy, it truly takes a combined effort to make the mission happen. We do this every day in Qatar, and that’s exactly what we are doing in support of the Lebanese Armed Forces.”Officials said 11 pallets, which contained more than 28,800 military field rations, 11,520 bottles of water, and two pallets of medical supplies were being delivered.According to the Associated Press, the blast killed at least 135 people and injured more than 5,000. 1371

The US Justice Department announced Friday an award of nearly million to help survivors of the 2017 mass shooting at Las Vegas' Route 91 Harvest music festival.Funding from the department's Office for Victims of Crime will help cover the costs of counseling, therapy, rehabilitation, trauma recovery and legal assistance for victims of the deadliest mass shooting in US history. Survivors covered by this award include ticket holders, concert staff, vendors, witnesses, law enforcement and other first responders, according to a DOJ statement. The .7 million award will also support close family members, medical personnel, coroner's staff, taxi drivers and others who helped concert goers on the October 2017 night in which 58 people were killed and hundreds of others wounded, according to the statement."While we cannot undo the harm that has been done, this Department of Justice is doing what we can to help Las Vegas heal," Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said in the statement. On October 1, 2017, a reclusive high-stakes gambler named Stephen Paddock opened fire on the popular outdoor music festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The festival was attended by about 22,000.After the slaughter, Paddock, 64, was found dead on the floor of his hotel room with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. 1380

The US House of Representatives will vote on whether to legalize marijuana across the country in September. This would be the first time a chamber of Congress has ever voted on removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act.Cannabis was included as what is called a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act in 1970. Schedule I drugs are defined as having a high potential for abuse and no medical benefit. Other Schedule I drugs include heroin, LSD, ecstasy and peyote. On Friday, representatives were informed the MORE Act will come up for a vote in the September work period of the House. The MORE Act - Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act - will expunge some cannabis records and create grant opportunities for people who have been negatively impacted by the criminalization of marijuana in addition to removing it from its Schedule I classification, according to Politico.Marijuana is already legal in 11 states, despite the federal designation as a Schedule I drug.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is opposed to the act, and some say the odds of it passing the senate are very slim.Even if the MORE Act passes both chambers of Congress, it would not make sales of marijuana legal. Regulation of marijuana would be left to states to decide how to handle it. 1310
