(KGTV) — Former first lady Barbara Pierce Bush has passed away in Texas. She was 92.Her passing was confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon by the Office of George H. Bush post-White House spokesman, Jim McGrath.It was reported on April 15 that after a "recent series of hospitalizations" Bush would not seek additional medical care. The Bushes married on Jan. 6, 1945.As her husband mounted a career in oil and eventually politics, Bush was a linchpin, managing 29 moves of her family.Her sixth child, Robin, died from leukemia before she was four years old. Bush said "because of Robin, George and I love every living human more," according to the White House archives.Bush was a fierce advocate in her husband's corner during his political career.Before serving as first lady, she served as second lady from 1981 to 1989. During that time Bush was a proponent of literacy, calling it the "most important issue we have." She established the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, which works to promote preschool and parental literacy.She was also an advocate for volunteerism, helping causes related to the homeless, AIDS, the elderly, and schools, according to the White House.Bush was the only living wife of one former President and the mother of another former President. She and her husband had been married for 73 years.Bush is survived by her husband; five children George W., Neil, Marvin, Jeb, and Dorothy; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Scott Pierce.Shortly after Bush's passing, her son George W. issued a statement saying, "I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. (KGTV) - In her new book, Elizabeth Smart says the man who kidnapped her also tried to kidnap a girl in El Cajon by posing as Mormon and befriending the girl’s family, according to People Magazine.Smart detailed Brian David Mitchell’s alleged plan in When There’s Hope: Healing, Moving Forward, and Never Giving Up. The book includes information about Smart’s abduction in 2002, when she was 14 years old. Smart was held captive by Mitchell and Wanda Barzee for nine months.Before Smart’s kidnapping, Mitchell deliberately went to a Mormon church in East County to find a girl to victimize, Smart wrote. Users went into a panic Sunday afternoon when the landscape in the game blew up, dragging players into a black hole. They were left watching a mostly dark screen and a spinning black hole, with no way to play.Fortnite's latest chapter features an all-new island with new weapons. Developer Epic Games released a trailer that quickly garnered excitement among its rabid fans.Fortnite is one of the most widely played video games. Even during the weekend's outage, roughly 100,000 people were watching a livestream of the black hole on Twitch. Rod Breslau, an esports and gaming consultant, estimates that millions of gamers in total tuned in just for that.Several Twitch channels were carrying the new chapter live on Tuesday, with the most popular channel garnering nearly 100,000 viewers. Tens of thousands more were watching it on YouTube.Fortnite is a huge money maker for Epic and its founder and CEO, Tim Sweeney. The free game makes money from its in-game currency, V-bucks, which is used to buy weapons and other accessories.Last month, Sweeney landed on the Forbes 400 list of richest Americans for the first time. (CNN) -- Rat lungworm disease has sickened three more visitors to the state of Hawaii recently, bringing the total number of cases to 10 for 2018 and five so far this year, the state's Department of Health said.The three cases newly confirmed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are unrelated, and affected three adult travelers from mainland United States.All five of this year's cases were contracted on Hawaii Island, also known as the Big Island. That island is one of several in the state of Hawaii.A parasitic infection causes the disease formally known as angiostrongyliasis, which is often mild and goes undetected.However, rat lungworm can also cause severe effects on a person's brain and spinal cord, according to the CDC. Symptoms vary, and the most common are severe headaches and neck stiffness. The most serious cases experience neurological problems, severe pain and long-term disability, the CDC says.The exact moment of infection is unknown for each of the three newly confirmed Hawaii cases, though one individual remembers "eating many homemade salads while on vacation," while another ate unwashed raw fruits, vegetables and other plants straight from the land, according to the Department of Health.One of last year's 10 total confirmed cases became sick after purposely eating a slug on a dare, according to the Department of Health. Most people, though, become ill by accidentally ingesting a snail or slug infected with the parasite, it said.The illness usually lasts between two weeks and two months, and on average, the incubation period is one to three weeks. However, an infection can incubate in only a single day or in six weeks, according to the CDC.Endemic in HawaiiHeather Stockdale Walden, an assistant professor of parasitology at the University of Florida, previously told CNN that rat lungworm disease has "been endemic in Hawaii for at least 50 years."The parasite can fully mature in rats. Garden-variety slugs and snails, which eat rat feces, can serve as intermediate hosts, allowing the parasite to grow to a stage where it's capable of causing infection, though never to full adulthood (and so never capable of reproduction).When the parasite gets into a human, it can get lost, and in some cases "go to the brain," Walden explained.In such cases, meningitis, a swelling of the thin membrane covering the spinal cord and brain, may be the result. The ingested parasite "can also move to the eye, and you can get ocular angiostrongylus," Walden said. Surgical removal may be necessary in these cases. In the best of cases, patients develop mild illness and simply get better on their own.People sick with rat lungworm disease do not become contagious.Preventing an infection "It's important that we ensure our visitors know the precautions to take to prevent rat lungworm disease," Hawaii Health Director Bruce Anderson said in a statement.The state's Health Department recommends you wash all fruits and vegetables -- especially leafy greens -- under clean, running water to remove any tiny slugs or snails. Snail, slug and rat populations need to be controlled around homes, gardens and farms by clearing debris where they might live, and also using traps and baits.Also inspect, wash and store produce in sealed containers, regardless of whether it came from a local retailer, farmer's market or backyard garden.In the Hawaiian islands, about 80% of land snails are carriers of the parasite, according to a 2014 research paper.First discovered in China in 1935, rat lungworm disease has spread to Asia, Australia, the Americas (including Brazil, the Caribbean islands and the United States) and the Pacific islands. Robert Flaxman admitted in a Boston courtroom he agreed to pay Rick Singer, the head of a college admissions company, ,000 to partake in the college entrance exam cheating scheme for his daughter. Flaxman’s daughter, who was accepted to USD but did not attend, had a proctor to boost her ACT scores, prosecutors said.
