China launched affordable housing construction on an unprecedented scale over the past years. The country started construction on 30 million units of affordable homes and housing units renovated from shantytowns.
The workshop also received a letter of congratulation from Chen Zhili, a vice chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee. Chen praised the program for its contribution to enhancing the country's environmental protection and expressed hope it will make greater contribution to building a beautiful China.
Over the past five years, Beijing built 300-km-long urban rail transit lines with nearly 190 billion yuan (about 30.3 billion U.S. dollars), said Beijing's acting mayor. The total length is 442 km in Beijing, which plans to complete 24 km more of such transit lines this year.
The blast occurred around 5:25 p.m. at the Kaifa coal mine in Jinsha County, when officers from a local police station and coal mine workers were destroying expired explosives, sources with the county government said.
The 2,298-km Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway, the world's longest, opened on Dec. 26, cutting travel time between the cities from more than 20 hours to about 8 hours.
