SAN DIEGO (CNS) - City officials and homeless advocates announced an expansion Tuesday of the city's program to establish safe parking lots for residents who live out of their cars or recreational vehicles.Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Councilman Scott Sherman and representatives of Jewish Family Service of San Diego jointly announced that the city will make a parking lot in Mission Valley near SDCCU Stadium available to vehicles in the next 45 days.The lot, which will also have supportive services for homeless residents, like job training, financial education and housing assistance, has space for up to 80 RVs or 200 regular cars and trucks.Jewish Family Service oversees the two existing parking lots and will do the same at the third, which is located near the intersection of Friars Road and Mission Village Drive.RELATED: San Diego program to provide safe parking for homeless living in vehicles"Often when someone becomes homeless for the first time, they end up living in their car and don't know where else to turn," Faulconer said. "The Safe Parking Program helps those individuals find a stable place to stay while they access services, look for a job and, ultimately, find a permanent place to call home."The announcement comes on the eve of the City Council's Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee's scheduled discussion of a limited ban on residents sleeping in their cars to replace a 36-year-old ordinance the council repealed in February. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Vista man who possessed child pornography and also secretly recorded an underage girl showering at his home via hidden camera was sentenced Friday to seven years in federal prison.Following his release from custody, Jeffrey John Lenhof, 41, will also be on supervised release for 10 years, during which he will be required to comply with conditions that include a prohibition from having contact with minors or accessing the Internet.Lenhof pleaded guilty last year to a receipt of child pornography count, following a law enforcement investigation into suspected child pornography on his computer.Homeland Security Investigations found that from as early as March 2017, child pornography files were made available from his home via a peer-to-peer file-sharing program, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.A search warrant served at his home in April of 2019 resulted in the seizure of three computers, an iPhone and an SD card that contained child pornography or were used to download or view child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.Investigators also found videos that appeared to have been recorded with hidden cameras in his home and other locations.One video showed a teenage girl, aged 13 or 14, entering the bathroom of his home, undressing and showering, with no indication she is aware of the camera's presence, court documents state. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of sneaking into a Pacific Beach home in the middle of the night and sexually assaulting a sleeping woman pleaded not guilty Monday to three felony charges, including "hot prowl" residential burglary.Jeffrey Hanze, 55, was ordered held on million bail.Deputy District Attorney Jessica Coto told Judge Jay Bloom that Hanze, who was arrested in Los Angeles County last week, has a prior conviction for "hot prowl" burglary and is considered a flight risk.RELATED: Pacific Beach rape suspect arrested in Los Angeles CountyCoto told reporters that Hanze entered the woman's bedroom through an open window about 1:45 a.m. on Oct. 1. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Confirmed flu cases in San Diego County are well behind the rate of confirmed cases during last year's flu season, according to county health officials.The county has confirmed 189 flu cases so far this flu season compared to 441 cases at this time last year. According to county public health officer Wilma Wooten, flu cases usually increase during the holidays due to increased traveling and large family gatherings."Holiday gatherings and celebrations bring people together in large groups raising the possibility of people getting sick and making others ill," Wooten said. "Get a flu shot before the flu starts to spread and so that you are protected during the holidays."The county's weekly influenza report found 33 lab-confirmed flu cases for the week of Nov. 4-10. Only one county resident has died due to flu complications this season, compared to three at this time last flu season. Flu complications killed 342 people in San Diego County last season, the highest total since the county began tracking flu deaths roughly 20 years ago.The county and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone 6 months or older get vaccinated against the flu each year. It is especially important for those at risk of serious complications, such as pregnant women and people with chronic medical conditions, to get the vaccine. Residents should also wash their hands regularly, stay away from sick people and clean surfaces that are touched often.The flu vaccine is available at doctors' offices, local retail pharmacies, community clinics and the county's public health center. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - At least one person was seriously injured this morning in a crash that may have involved an alcohol-impaired driver, the California Highway Patrol said.A car reportedly rolled over and caught fire about 3:44 a.m. on southbound state Route 15 near state Route 94, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. Moments later, dispatchers were told the car appeared to have exploded.The fire-damaged car was then struck by another car, according to the incident log. A third vehicle was also involved in the crash, though details were scant.At least one person was left with serious injuries.
