SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Drivers who travel from northbound Interstate 5 to the Coronado Bridge will be detoured through Barrio Logan this week due to construction.Caltrans crews will shut down the north I-5 connector to SR-75 Monday through Thursday nights to install a debris fence above Chicano Park.Detour signs will guide drivers to exit at Cesar Chavez Parkway, then left to the on-ramp at SR-75 at Logan Avenue.The closure will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.Check TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. 508

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Homicide detectives are investigating after a man died in Hillcrest early Sunday morning. According to Lieutenant Anthony Dupree, a passerby was walking near Albert Street and Upas Street around 5:30 a.m. when he saw a man with trauma to his body and called police. The passerby performed life-saving efforts on the man before paramedics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Dupree said. According to police, the man was between the ages of 25 and 30, but his identity is unknown at this time. Dupree said detectives are going door-to-door in the area to find out if anyone heard anything. 635

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Four rescued sea lion pups and a northern fur seal were released back into the ocean after rehabilitating at SeaWorld.The fur seal was rescued on Mission Beach on Dec. 30, 2019, and the four sea lion pups came into SeaWorld's care over the past two months. All the animals were malnourished and dehydrated, animal care experts said.During their rehabilitation, the animals doubled in weight and were given a clean bill of health by SeaWorld veterinarians. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hotels hit hard by the coronavirus are getting a reprieve thanks to Labor Day weekend, as tourists snatch up rooms along our coast.Elvin Lai, who owns Pacific Beach's Ocean Park Inn, says he's pretty much booked with premium rates. And, for the first time this summer, he's getting calls from overbooked hotel managers needing to find rooms for overflow guests. "I think people are just saying, I've got to get out, I don't care how long the drive is, let's just go," Lai said. Lai said resort-centric hotels like his are make-or-break during the summer, so it hit particularly hard when the coronavirus led to mass cancellations. Making matters worse, Lai had just spent million upgrading the hotel's 71 rooms."It was just like, boom! Uppercut to the chin," Lai said. "I couldn't plan for it. I couldn't forecast it. There was no model to look at."Now, he's in for a different challenge, because his hotel is understaffed, and he says he is struggling to fill positions.
