BALTIMORE, Md. -- On Thursday, Maryland will become the first state in the country to ban foam containers for all schools and restaurants in the state.Some counties throughout the Baltimore area have already made the move to ban Styrofoam. Baltimore County is not one of them, but some restaurants have already taken the initiative to go green.More eco-friendly to-go options at restaurants tend to be a little more expensive, but Styrofoam can't be recycled and doesn't break down, so it's considered an environmental issue.There is already a foam ban in Baltimore City, as well as Montgomery, Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties.In addition to the foam ban on Thursday, Howard County is charging five cents for plastic bags in another effort to be sustainable.It's a lot less than the 0 fine that restaurants could face for violating the foam ban.The foam ban was originally planned for July, but because of the pandemic, state officials pushed it back to October to give restaurants a little more time to adapt.This story was originally published by Erin MacPherson at WMAR. 1094

BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) - A pursuit that ended at a South Bay apartment complex Thursday led to the arrest of a suspect inside a home.Robert Perez, 26, was seen leaving the scene of a domestic violence incident at a Lemon Grove apartment complex at 10:30 a.m., San Diego County Sheriff's deputies said.Deputies tried to pull over Perez as he drove away but he refused to stop, said officials. Perez began driving more than 100 miles an hour on freeways including SR-94 and SR-54, according to deputies.Perez parked his car in a carport at 2920 Briarwood Road and ran to an apartment on Plaza Mercia in Bonita. Deputies said Perez initially kept the resident of the apartment from leaving, but the person eventually ran outside.Perez was taken into custody inside the apartment. No one was hurt.Deputies did not release details about the domestic violence incident. 875

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University has shown its support for any future or prospective students who take part in any marches or protests, saying it will not affect their admission decision. Many high school students have followed the lead of the survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, protesting for increased gun control. Students in schools across the country have planned walkouts and other rallies as well.Many colleges across the country, IU included, have told students that they won't reject them if they're disciplined for protesting. A high school in Houston has warned students that they will be suspended for three days if they took part in any protest. IU Admissions tweeted the following: For all our future Hoosiers: At IU, we encourage students to engage in meaningful, informed, and civil discourse regarding difficult and important issues. BALTIMORE, Maryland — With no real place to call home, 67-year-old Randolph Cockrell slept on a porch on Oakmont Avenue Tuesday evening."I didn't know whether the person was still living or what?" recalled Tanya Teagle, who saw police standing over a body in her yard across the alley the next morning, and later learned it was the homeless man known in the area as Mr. Randolph, "He was the neighborhood nuisance.  He would mess with everybody, but you just ignored him and go about your way.  Sometimes he joked with you.  Sometimes he argued with you, but he was a fun person.  He didn't really do too much to bother anyone."That is, until somehow he appears to have drawn the ire of 19-year-old Dion Dixon."The suspect, Mr. Dixon, in some way confronted him,” said Interim Baltimore City Police Commissioner Gary Tuggle, “We don't know what the motive was, but he began assaulting him, chased him and ultimately beat him with a brick."About a mile from the crime scene, friends of the victim's family say Randolph's alcoholism landed him on the street."He would drink too much... get a little belligerent, but most of the time, it was because he was drunk... not that he wanted to harm anybody. He wasn't hurtful,” said Krystal Turner.In fact, some say they had seen Randolph and Dixon together in recent days, laughing and hanging out together, which makes it all that much more disturbing that the teen could be capable of beating him to death with a brick."He walked around with a walker so he could barely walk,” said Teagle, “He's not going to do anything to hurt anybody, because he's incapable to me.  It was real sad to hear someone did that to him — somebody that's defenseless you know?"Dixon is being held at Central Booking on a series of charges including murder and assault. 1840

(AP) — An Alabama man says he has completed his quest to mow lawns for veterans in all 50 states.Rodney Smith Jr. tweeted Friday that he's headed home from Hawaii after cutting grass in Oahu.
