SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Too many young military families in San Diego are finding themselves trapped in mountains of debt, not knowing where to turn.It's a devastating problem that the nonprofit Support the Enlisted Project (STEP) is working to tackle."It's a real challenge, and I think we are setting these families up for failure a lot of the times," said Tony Teravainen, CEO and Co-founder of STEP. "Their wage with all their allowances, E4 and below, 100% of them are below HUD's low-income level."RELATED: San Diego woman climbs out of 3,000 debt holeTeravainen says families often don't ask for help until things have gotten really bad. STEP helps prevent roughly seven evictions each month for young military families. "As a country, we don't have great financial habits. And what we see is when families enter the military we put additional burdens on them, and a lot of times this pulls them further, further into debt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Witness video shows the moment San Diego Police opened fire on a pursuit suspect in Logan Heights Monday.The video starts with the suspect, identified Tuesday as 30-year-old Enrique Aguilar, walking in the middle of the street, it appears toward the direction of police. Yells of "drop the gun" could be heard as Aguilar continues walking down the street.As Aguilar proceeds toward officers, police say he pointed a weapon at officers. A hail of gunfire rings out and Aguilar falls to the ground.RELATED: Foot pursuit ends in officer-involved shooting in Logan HeightsTwo officers then approach Aguilar and place him in under arrest.Aguilar was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Two officers involved in the exchange of gunfire were not injured. 800

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two hundred elementary students are now the proud owners of new bikes, thanks to inmates at the Donovan Correctional Facility.For the fourth year, the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center teamed up with the correctional facility to make the event happen. The inmates raised over ,000 to pay for the bikes and accessories, with some donating money they earn working. “Certain decisions got me where I am, but better decisions that I made since then put me exactly where I am, in the fire department and on my way out the door,” said prison inmate, Andrew Breckenridge.Breckenridge was one of two inmates invited to attend that actual event at the Kroc Center. He’s being released from prison in 10 days. “It feels great, I mean I can’t describe the feeling, seeing the smiles on these kids faces,” said Breckenridge.Children who received bikes were chosen based on merit and good behavior at school. 933
