Washington state's Supreme Court on Thursday ruled the death penalty was unconstitutional because it was inconsistently applied, making Washington the 20th state in the US to outlaw capital punishment.The court said the death penalty's use varied depending on the location of the crime or the race of the accused -- a violation of the state's constitution. A study from the University of Washingtonfound jurors in the state were "more than four times more likely to impose a death sentence if the defendant is black."The ruling was handed down Thursday morning in the case of Allen Eugene Gregory, who was convicted and sentenced to death in 2001 for the murder of of a woman five years prior, according to court documents.The court said it would not reconsider Gregory's conviction of aggravated first-degree murder.In a statement, the American Civil Liberties Union praised the court's decision."Washington's Supreme Court showed courage in refusing to allow racism to infect life and death decisions," said Jeff Robinson, the ACLU's deputy legal director and director of the Trone Center for Justice. WAUWATOSA, Wisc. — An organization founded by rapper Jay-Z has offered to pay the bail bonds and citation fees for those who were arrested in Wauwatosa Thursday night while protesting the decision not to charge a local police officer who shot and killed of 17-year-old in February.Jay-Z is funding the bail bonds and citation fees through Team ROC, the social justice arm of the rapper's entertainment company Roc Nation. The group also funded billboards calling for justice for Jacob Blake in the Kenosha area earlier this year.Wauwatosa police said 24 people were arrested Thursday night while were protesting the decision to not charge Officer Joseph Mensah in the fatal February shooting of 17-year-old Alvin Cole. Those arrested included Alvin Cole's mother, Tracy, and Alvin's sisters.In a statement issued Friday, Jay-Z and Team ROC called for Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers to select a special prosecutor to "ensure justice is served."Team ROC says it also attempted to erect billboards to call for justice for Cole in Wauwatosa, but claims its request was apparently denied by the owner of the billboards, identified by the organization as the Lamar Advertising Company.Team ROC says it also ran an advertisement in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel last summer, calling for Mensha's immediate prosecution and firing. Mensah is currently suspended from the Wauwatosa Police Department but has not been fired."Our hearts break for the family of Alvin Cole and the Wauwatosa community," Team ROC Director Dania Dia said in a statement. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has sued former national security adviser John Bolton to block the publication of a book that the White House says contains classified information.The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, follows warnings from President Donald Trump that Bolton could face a “criminal problem” if he doesn’t halt plans to publish the book.The administration has also said the former adviser did not complete a pre-publication review to ensure that the manuscript did not contain classified material.The suit asks a judge to direct Bolton to notify his publisher that he was not authorized to release “The Room Where It Happened,” to further delay the release date of the book, and to instruct the publisher to take any and all steps to retrieve and dispose of any copies of the book that may be in the possession of any third party.The complaint also asks a judge to order that “all monies, gains, profits, royalties and other advantages” that Bolton and his agents receive from the book be placed in a “constructive trust for the benefit of the United States.Bolton’s attorney, Chuck Cooper, has said Bolton worked for months with classification specialists to avoid releasing classified material.Cooper has accused the White House of using national security information as a pretext to censor Bolton.As of Tuesday, Amazon listed the book as being released next week, on June 23. 1449

According to the White House, Faulconer and the President discussed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
