ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia’s governor, Brian Kemp, is explicitly banning the state's cities and counties from ordering people to wear masks in public places.He’s voiding orders that at least 15 local governments across the state had adopted even though Kemp had earlier said cities and counties had no power to order masks.The Republican governor has instead been trying to encourage voluntary mask wearing.An increasing number of other states have ordered residents to wear masks in public, including Alabama, which announced such a ban Wednesday.Kemp’s move is likely to infuriate local officials in communities that had acted, including Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Rome and the governor’s hometown of Athens-Clarke County. 729

BALTIMORE — A doctor described as providing care to the "sickest patients" in Baltimore died of COVID-19, Mercy Medical Center said in a Facebook post.Dr. Joseph J. Costa, the chief of critical care at the hospital, was 56 years old."Joe was more than a trusted colleague; he was also a true friend to many. He dedicated his life and career to caring for the sickest patients. And when the global pandemic came down upon us, Joe selflessly continued his work on the front lines—deeply committed to serving our patients and our City during this time of great need. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is once again under scrutiny on Capitol Hill regarding his candor about Russia and the Trump campaign amid revelations that he rejected a suggestion to convene a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump last year.According to court filings unsealed this week, Trump campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos suggested at a March 2016 meeting that he could use his connections to set up a meeting between Putin and Trump with the then-GOP candidate's national security team. An Instagram picture on Trump's account shows Sessions attended the meeting at which Papadopoulos made the suggestion.After Trump declined to rule out the idea, Sessions weighed in and rejected the proposed meeting, according to a person who attended. 799

Atlanta police released images late Sunday of a second person of interest in the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old girl on the Fourth of July. Authorities are also offering a ,000 reward for information in the death of Secoriea Turner. At least two shooters were believed to be responsible for her death. Police had released a short video of the first person of interest last week. Photos were released Sunday night of the second person of interest.According to Crime Stoppers in Atlanta, the preliminary investigation suggests the young girl was riding in a car with her mother and an adult friend when they were confronted by a group of people blocking the entrance to a parking lot. At some point, someone in the group opened fire on the car, hitting it several times and striking the child. The driver headed to a nearby hospital, and Turner died from her injuries. Both persons of interest are seen in the images carrying rifles. The fatal shooting happened near the Wendy's where Rayshard Brooks was shot and killed by a police officer. 1051

At least three people died and 67 were injured after a tanker truck exploded on a highway in Bologna, Italy, a spokesman for Italian state police told CNN.Marco Granna, a spokesman for the local health agency in Bologna, told CNN that 55 people were taken to the hospital for treatment of first-, second- and third-degree burns.At least two of the injured are police officers, the Italian highway patrol told CNN.Footage of the incident showed an enormous fireball and plumes of thick, black smoke in the sky .The explosion ripped through the pavement, leaving huge holes in the road surface.According to police, the incident took place at Bologna Casalecchio and the junction with the A14 route from Bologna to Taranto.  734
