EAST COUNTY (CNS) - One vehicle overturned and another one ended up in a ditch in a collision today in Jacumba Hot Springs, the California Highway Patrol said.The two-car collision happened at 12:22 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 8 near Carrizo Gorge Road, the CHP said.A gray Chevy Silverado and a black Lexus sedan collided and landed in the center divider. The Silverado overturned but all of the occupants got out of the vehicle, according to a CHP incident log.Tow trucks were called to the scene. There was no immediate information on the condition of people in both vehicles.A CHP dispatcher said two officers were investigating the accident and still at the scene as of 1:15 p.m. 693

EL CAJON (KGTV) -- In response to growing concerns of the rapidly spreading coronavirus, Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District officials have announced that they will be canceling in-person classes for a week as a precautionary measure.Grossmont and Cuyamaca college campuses will close the week of March 16-20 and temporarily shift to online instruction as a precautionary measure.“We are taking these extraordinary measures out of an abundance of caution,” said Chancellor Lynn Neault. “We are doing everything we can to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our students, employees and the public, while ensuring that our student can complete their classes.”The colleges join numerous local and national institutions that are also announcing face-to-face instruction to quell the spread of coronavirus, including Chula Vista's Southwestern College, San Diego State University, and USD.Non-instructional employees will be on site during their regular work hours, according to officials."All student events for the next two weeks are canceled, and intercollegiate athletics games are cancelled through March 29. Staff and student travel on district business outside of the state and country has been cancelled, and in-state travel is being reviewed on a case-by-case basis," officials said.“We recognize the challenges imposed by these measures, and we regret any difficulties to students or faculty, but the health and safety of our campus communities is our utmost responsibility,” said Linda Cartwright, president of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District Governing Board. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nearly 1,000 students left without answers after three charter schools forced to shut down. In a lawsuit filed by the Grossmont Union High School District in 2015, a judge ruled against the charter schools in Lemon Grove, El Cajon and Lakeside demanding they shut their doors June 28 for good. The charter students say they’re non-traditional and don’t want to go back into public schools. The district superintendent says they charter schools were unlawful when the charters got authorization through the Julian and Borrego Springs school districts. 586

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- El Cajon could become the first city in San Diego County to ban the sale of vaping products. That comes as the CDC investigated hundreds of vaping-related illness. In total, there have been 22 vaping-related deaths confirmed across the U.S., including two in California. Public health officials have been asking people to stop vaping until they get answers. Tuesday, the City Council will vote to decide if vaping will be banned in the city of El Cajon. Some councilmembers say they want a complete ban on the sale of vaping products and flavored juices. Investigators still haven’t found the root cause of the illnesses, but did find that 78 percent of people injured reported using THC containing products. 744

Dick's Sporting Goods, the nation's largest sporting goods retailer, will stop selling assault-style weapons like the one used in the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting.The company said it will also raise the minimum age for all gun sales to 21. Dick's will not sell high-capacity magazines that allow shooters to fire far more rounds than traditional weapons without reloading, as well as other accessories used with weapons similar to the AR-15.The Parkland shooter, Nikolas Cruz, bought a gun at Dick's. The company said he did not buy the AR-15 that he used in the school shooting there.The company stopped selling those military-style semiautomatic weapons in its Dick's-branded stores after the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in 2012, but it continued to sell those weapons at its 35 Field and Stream stores.Now it will pull those weapons from all of its stores.Walmart, the nation's largest retailer and a major seller of firearms, announced it would stop selling the military-style semiautomatic weapons in August 2015.There have been widespread calls for tougher gun control measures in the week since the school shooting. We at DICK'S Sporting Goods are deeply disturbed and saddened by the tragic events in Parkland.
