RANCHO BERNARDO (KGTV)- A coyote with piping trapped around her neck is still suffering, much to the chagrin of neighbors and animal rescue organizations.Katie Ryan first noticed the mother coyote was in trouble April 15th. She has an outdoor camera that captures her side yard in the overnight hours and, prior to this, she's seen lots of animals travel through."We moved in a little over 3 1/2 years ago, and we had no idea that we were moving onto a pathway for all types of wildlife. We've had a raccoon on a nightly basis recently, one of my neighbors had deer, we've seen roadrunners," she said.Katie's worked tirelessly, monitoring the coyote from her window and calling organizations to get help. "[I'm] making sure she's safe and that no one's out trying to injure her more than she already is," she said.The Fund for Wildlife Animal Center, based in Ramona, brought out a large trap, filled it with bait, but the raccoons got to it before they could trap the coyote.Katie had them remove the trap last weekend after a week of no luck. Her hope is another rescue group will be able to trap the coyote Monday night."I want it humane, I don't want, I did talk with some people who... I was not happy with their trapping ideas because she's already in such bad condition," she said.Katie has grown so invested in the animal, she and her husband came up with a name for her, "because of the tubing around her neck, my husband and I were just joking around about it and we just said it reminds us, she looks like a turtle. So we called her Myrtle the Turtle."As time goes on, the situation becomes more desperate. Katie's pictures show how thin Myrtle's become over the past month and she's worried about Myrtle's pups."She's very cut up and could be septic at this point and I noticed she's starting to have problems with her hind legs and her hips," Katie said. "Just watching her try to move from A to B, is painful, it really actually gives me physical and mental pain to see her in that kind of distress."PETA has gotten involved, saying they want to help. The Fund for Wildlife Animal Center says they have room and experts ready to help once Myrtle's caught.If you find a wild animal, you are advised to not approach it, touch it or feed it, contact animal rescue personnel. 2343

Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, questioned Dr. Anthony Fauci on Friday on why protests were permitted in the wake of the death of George Floyd amid the coronavirus pandemic.Jordan claimed that allowing protests while church services in some states have been scaled back due to the spread of the virus was "inconsistent."During the heated exchange, Dr. Fauci conceded that all mass gatherings, including protests, should be avoided by the public. But as Jordan tried to press Dr. Fauci into opining on limits to protests and church services, Dr. Fauci reiterated that he was not in a position to make such an opinion.“I don't understand what you're asking me as a public health official to opine on who should get arrested or not. That's not my position,” Dr. Fauci said.Jordan said that Dr. Fauci makes recommendations all of the time, and pressed him on why he wouldn’t made an opinion on this topic.“You know, you made comments on dating on baseball and everything you can imagine. I'm just asking you, you just said protests increased the spread. I'm just asking you. Should we try to limit the protest?”Jordan asked.Fauci responded, “I think I would leave that to people who have more of a position to do that.”Fauci, who acts as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was joined by other public health officials on Capitol Hill for a hearing on the government’s response to the virus.While the Black Lives Matter protests took place in late May and early June, the timing of the protests coincided with the reopening of bars and restaurants in many states. According to research conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research, the protests did not cause a spike of coronavirus cases. The research indicated that the protests may have actually caused a net increase to social distancing as many people opted to stay home to avoid the protests."Our findings suggest that any direct decrease in social distancing among the subset of the population participating in the protests is more than offset by increasing social distancing behavior among others who may choose to shelter-at-home and circumvent public places while the protests are underway," the report reads.Jordan tried to spin Dr. Fauci’s testimony to decry the Black Lives Matter protests and blame Democrats who are supportive of the movement.“Can’t go to church. President Donald Trump's nominee for an Alabama federal court judgeship is being criticized for not disclosing in his confirmation process his wife's role in the White House.Brett Talley did not disclose his wife's position as chief of staff for White House Counsel Donald McGahn on his Senate questionnaire, according to The New York Times.Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate judiciary committee, said the full Senate should not consider Talley's nomination until he explains why he failed to disclose the potential conflict of interest."By failing to disclose that his wife is one of President Trump's lawyers," Feinstein said in a statement, "Talley has betrayed his obligation to be open and transparent with the Senate and American people."The Senate judiciary committee advanced Talley's nomination along a party-line vote Thursday and a full Senate vote is expected soon.Question 24 of the disclosure form asks nominees to "identify the family members or other persons ... that are likely to present potential conflicts of interest." Talley did not mention his wife in the answer to this question, only responding: "If confirmed, I will recuse in any litigation where I have ever played a role." Republicans are reportedly seeking to extend increased unemployment benefits in the next round of COVID-19 stimulus, but at a much lower rate, according to The New York Times and The Washington Post.Both The Times and The Post report that Republican lawmakers are prepared to introduce a stimulus package that would continue increased unemployment insurance, but would reduce weekly aid from 0 a week to 0 a week.The 0 federal payments, put in place by the .2 trillion CARES Act that was passed in March, expired over the weekend.According to both The Times and The Post, the Republican plan would offer the 0 insurance for two months, during which time states would need to develop their own plans that would pay unemployed workers 70% of what they were making prior to the pandemic.Many Republicans argue that the 0 a week payments created an incentive for those unemployed to not work, arguing that many were receiving more in unemployment insurance than they would if working.Democrats favor extending the 0 payments through the end of the year with the HEROES Act — a stimulus package that passed through the House in May. The Senate has not yet taken action on the bill.On Friday, Democrats argued that Republicans needed to work with them quickly in order to get payments to those that need them. Rep. It seems most families agree as playground and trampoline retailers have been selling out of stock."It’s just been a huge surge in sales and for everything we sell. Almost like a frenzy, in a sense," says Pete DeLois. DeLois owns Recreations Outlet in Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. He says their sales in April doubled their previous highest month."The most we’ve ever sold in any one month is little over 100. I mean, we sold 140 by the time we’d gotten through two weeks in April," DeLois said. Since Recreations Outlet pre-orders their equipment ahead of the spring and summer season, their inventory of playgrounds and trampolines quickly ran dry. DeLois put customers on a waiting list for up to 14 weeks."I also think some of the money they had maybe was allocated for vacations," says DeLois.Recreation Outlet shares space with a gymnastics facility which had to shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. DeLois says many parents can spend upwards of 0 a month in gymnastics classes and are likely looking for a physical outlet for their kids."There isn’t anything in our product mix that they’re not looking for. We sell basketball goals, play sets, trampolines, they all are good solutions for getting the kids outside the house and away from inside the house. I’m sure parents are interested in kids getting fresh air but every one of them have been a mad dash," says DeLois.Pete is supposed to get another 40 trampolines in next week and says they'll be gone within two days. Even entry-level playgrounds are sold out. They usually aren't."I've been doing this for 30 years. With a seasonal business it’s always a challenge when you're in that season because you end up doing-- in this industry you do about 70% in a five to six month window but we‘re prepared for it because we’ve done it over and over again. But we weren’t prepared for this," says DeLois.Not prepared, but grateful that his business is doing well and helping families turn their backyards into a fun place to vacation at home this summer. 2141
