"Saying, 'Hey maybe you should get a blood pressure cuff at home and start monitoring that blood pressure and bring in those numbers for us to review together at your next visit.'"The lower score is expected to triple the number of younger men considered hypertensive and double the number of younger women with high blood pressure. So if not medication, what can you do? Doctors say make lifestyle changes. For starters, cutting back on salt, carbs, tobacco and alcohol.Dr. Aznaurov says, "It's weight loss, exercise. It's getting plenty of sleep. It's treating underlying related conditions." If successful, the study's authors say these things can significantly lower your numbers, and risk of heart attack and stroke."The bottom line is that yeah we really do really see visible results with those changes," Dr. Aznaurov says.Under the new guidelines normal blood pressure will be considered anything less than 120 over 80. 1962

(CNS) - A woman who was captured on video making a pair of racist rants aimed at Asian Americans at a Torrance park in June is set to be arraigned in October on a separate battery charge dating back to last fall.Lena Hernandez, 54, identified by prosecutors as a retired social worker from Long Beach, is accused of verbally assaulting a custodian at the Del Amo Mall in Torrance last October, and then physically attacking a female bystander who tried to intervene.Hernandez was charged with battery last Thursday and arrested the following day by Torrance police, according to online jail records. Currently, there are critical gaps in the evidence regarding how each incident unfolded that result in the lack of necessary certainty required to initiate criminal prosecution against any suspect," according to a statement the city attorney released last Thursday.In the first case, a woman later identified as Hernandez was caught on video verbally accosting a young woman exercising at the park."Go back to whatever (expletive) Asian country you belong in," Hernandez yelled. "This is not your place. This is not your home. We do not want you here."An Asian man posted a video online showing him and his son being accosted and threatened by Hernandez on the same day."You need to go home," Hernandez tells the man as she walks up and stands so close that her image fills his phone screen. "I don't care about your Facebook or your video. Do you know how many people can't stand you being here? You play games, we don't play games."After threatening the man and telling him he had parked his car too close to hers, Hernandez mockingly called him a "Chinaman."The videos prompted hundreds of people to gather on June 12 at Wilson Park to protest the racist behavior, and city officials held a news conference to identify Hernandez and ask for the public's help to locate her."Our hope is that the members of our community will never have to endure such treatment," Torrance Police Department Chief Eve Berg said then.The city attorney's office said it could not be swayed by public sentiment."It is a prosecutor's solemn duty to analyze a case based on the evidence and triability and not based on politics or public sentiment unrelated to the likelihood of prevailing before a jury," the Thursday statement read. 3016

This summer, Uncharted decided to put it to the test.CEO Banks Benitez says he started looking into it in 2019. He brought it to his executive board, and they decided it was something they were going to implement in 2020. Then, COVID-19 happened."So, we asked this question, 'Do we need to be working like crazy hours right now or do we need to really think about how we care for the mental health of our team and give people some space?'" said Benitez.This summer, they launched an experiment, hiring a third-party company to evaluate the efficacy of the experiment. The team worked Monday through Thursday, taking every Friday off. The hours were not made up throughout the week. The team worked four 8-hour workdays.They looked at three main things: performance, culture, and mental health."Performance stayed the same and was constant over the course of the experiment compared to previous performance," said Benitez.Culture, he says, slightly improved at the Denver-based company. People felt just as or a little more connected to members on their team.Lastly, to no surprise, mental health improved."I know that our best work comes when our team is healthy when our team is mentally healthy, when our team is aligned and in touch with each other," said Benitez.Benitez says there’s a different mentality that his employees bring in when they have a four-day workweek. They’re more focused and clearer about priorities. However, there are some downfalls"There’s a little bit less buffer time to kind of just go with the wind. You have to be really thoughtful about how you structure your time. There is nothing like the sound of a baby's cry and for a new mom like Whitney Eberhardt, it can be daunting.“When you first come home from the hospital you have no idea what you are doing and when they are crying you sometimes have no idea why. So, it’s nice to have something to help you out,” said Eberhardt.On average, doctors say a newborn can cry a total of 2 hours a day, and that’s why Dr. Ariana Anderson of UCLA created the app, Chatter Baby.“I thought it would be good to make a device that would help new parents and possibly deaf parents. So, when they were around their baby crying and said, why is my baby crying they would have some sort of answer,” said Dr. Anderson.Chatter Baby is in its infancy stage and currently only gives three reasons for your baby crying. The three reasons are when a baby's in pain, fussy or hungry.Eberhardt tried out the app and said it is easy to use. You press record for five seconds as your baby is crying and the app will then compare the cry to the sounds in a database to determine a reason. The Chatter Baby database of cries was created with the help of new parents.“We think the best judges of the baby are parents themselves. We had the parent initially label the cry. So a mother would say, my baby is hungry, so if two other mothers agreed with that description of the babies cry then we would include that cry in our data base,” said Dr. Anderson.Certain cries have a different acoustic sound. For example, babies who are in pain might have a cry with high energy or a fussy cry may have more periods of silence.“Once we had an agreement amongst the mothers we trained artificial intelligence algorithms to look for patterns in the cry that were specific to hunger to pain to fussiness,” said Dr. Anderson.With the help of artificial intelligence, Chatter Baby’s algorithm claims 90% accuracy whether your baby is crying or not and correctly flags more than 90% of pain cries.However, as you get more comfortable knowing why your baby is crying, you can tweak the app yourself to make it more accurate.“We want to have a way for parents to revise, update and improve the algorithym.so the algorithm gets returned to their specific baby,” said Dr. Anderson.Eberhardt said the app is a great safety net for all new parents.  2315
