EL CAJON (KGTV) -- Crews are working to clear the scene of a semi truck fire that shut down a portion of Interstate 8 early Sunday morning.The semi truck caught on fire about 5 a.m. along westbound I-8 between 2nd Street and Mollison Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol.Responding fire crews said that 40 ft trailer was completely engulfed in flames. The fire blocked the far right lane for a couple of hours.A sig alert was issued about 7:45 am for the 2nd Street on ramp to westbound I-8.Crews remain on the scene working to clear the area of debris.The Sig-alert remained in effect as of 10:45 a.m., and motorists are asked to proceed through the area with caution or use alternate routes.  717

During an interview with ABC News on Thursday, Dr. Anthony Fauci said that wearing goggles can offer an additional layer of protection against the coronavirus.Fauci’s suggestion was not an official recommendation, but the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, explained why eyes can also be responsible for coronavirus infections."You have mucosa in the nose, mucosa in the mouth, but you also have mucosa in the eye," Fauci said. EL CAJON (CNS) - A man suspected of killing his husband at their Mount Helix home pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge.Daniel Scott Jordan, 45, is accused in the slaying of 38-year-old Kevin Powell, a Chula Vista city employee whose body was found in the couple's Carmen Drive residence on Aug. 11.Chula Vista police found Powell's body while conducting a welfare check, sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver said. (KGTV) -- Five people were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after reportedly falling ill at an El Cajon animal hospital.The incident was reported at around 1:40 p.m. at the Care & Comfort Veterinary Hospital on 522 E Chase Ave.According to Heartland Fire officials, five adults and two children inside the hospital reported not feeling well.Responding emergency crews conducted tests on the adults and children, and they found the seven people had elevated levels of carbon monoxide in their systems.The adults were transported, but the two children -- for reasons unknown -- were not taken to the hospital.Fire officials said a hazardous materials team and county health officials tested the air in the building but could not locate the source of the carbon monoxide.Meanwhile, officials advised owners to pick up their pets from the hospital out of an abundance of caution. 911

DETROIT, Michigan — General Motors made a major announcement on Monday saying it will close two plants in metro Detroit as well as plants in Ohio and Canada. The plan will help save the company billion by 2020, according to GM.In a news release, the company said it will close the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant in Detroit and Warren Transmission Operations in Warren. Other plans closing include the Oshawa Assembly Plant in Oshawa, Ontario, the Lordstown Assembly in Warren, Ohio and the Baltimore Operations in White Marsh, Maryland.According to a spokesperson for GM, the plants will be unallocated which means they will no longer produce vehicles in those plants in 2019.
