(KGTV) — A Descanso man has finished carving a Buddha statue into a granite boulder in his backyard. “Buddha is in every tree just looking at you like every rock,” said artist Duncan McFetridge. “It’s connected to our saving our environment — all life is sacred.” Duncan McFetridge says it took six months to carve the 6-foot tall Buddha into the granite. “It occurred to me that this was a perfect time and place to carve a representation of Buddha,” added McFetridge, who was heavily involved in the preservation of the Cleveland National Forest. He estimates he chipped away more than 750 pounds using a combination of hand tools and power tools on the stone carving while working in 4-hour increments every day. “These are incredibly difficult,” said McFetridge pointing to cinnamon roll-sized circles adorning the carving's head, “each one takes about a day.” The 78-year-old says someone recently visited and figured out the Buddha carving faces due east, sticking with an ancient tradition of Buddha statues facing east to represent the moment of the enlightenment. “I didn’t know, I was totally unconscious of this,” said McFetridge, who adds he just picked the rock face because of its accessibility.McFetridge says hundreds have already inquired about visiting the statue to which he says he encourages it. “The Buddha wants to be known,” said McFetridge. 1390

DENVER, Colorado — Police officers found the body of 7-year-old Jordan Vong inside the family’s home while executing a search warrant Tuesday night and announced a 16-year-old girl had been arrested for investigation on first-degree murder charges in connection with his death.Denver Police Division Chief Joe Montoya said officers found Vong’s body concealed within the home during the search. He said that Vong’s body was discovered around 9 p.m. and that police believe it was “intentionally concealed.”Montoya said that they discovered additional evidence overnight that led them to take the 16-year-old girl into custody Wednesday morning. He said he could not say anything further about her relationship to Vong because she is a juvenile.Vong was reported missing around 4:30 p.m.?Monday. When officers arrived at the scene, they learned the child had been missing for a few hours already. Police said a family member made the report, but he did not identify the reporting party. Police, family and community members began an immediate search of the area where he was last seen, near his home at Chambers Road and Bolling Drive in the Montbello neighborhood. But the search came to an end when police announced they located Vong’s body at a Tuesday evening news conference.Two girls at Greenwood Middle School, which sits right next to the elementary school, said they befriended Vong after seeing him playing alone on the school’s playground.“We would play tag with him, and I remember asking him what’s his name. And he would say, ‘Jordan’ all smiling and happy,” said 13-year-old Luz Padilla. “When we asked him who were his friends, he would say, ‘I don’t have no friends. You guys are my only friends.’”Gisele Perez, who lives close to Vong and is also 13, said she decided to play with Vong because he was always alone.“When we played with him he just seemed really happy. He seemed like someone cared about him,” Perez said.Both said they were heartbroken to learn that Vong was missing and then found dead.“It’s all about Jordan today because, like, he was really nice and a caring kid, so it’s really heartbreaking that he passed away,” Perez said.“We were all crying and sad because he was such a nice kid,” said Padilla.A candlelight vigil is planned to remember Vong Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Greenwood Elementary School, located at 5130 Durham Court in Denver. The message appeared simple enough."We are here to end human trafficking," explained Jacob Sledge, who organized the Save Our Children rally. "We are also here to make reforming laws against pedophiles."Speeches and action calls from Sledge and other marchers made clear their alleged intentions."We are here today to share survivor stories, to give them support from each other, and to let the abusers know we are not scared anymore," explained a protester ahead of a survivor sharing her heartbreaking story of abuse.Sledge made another thing clear: "We are not affiliated with QAnon."QAnon is a baseless, far-right conspiracy theory alleging that a cabal of demonic pedophiles is waging an underground war against President Donald Trump. It has gained significant traction among conspiracy websites like 4Chan. The theory has been identified by the FBI as a potential source of domestic terrorism.Though the organizer denied ties to the conspiracy theory, signs and posters held by protesters hinted at support for similar ideas. Rallies, under the banner "Save Our Children" and "Save the Children" have sprouted across the country and world. The esoteric 'Q' symbol, which shows support for the theory, has also appeared at Trump rallies and conservative protests since the idea gained traction.Trump has hinted support for followers of the theory, sharing several tweets from QAnon accounts that were later accused of antisemitism. DEL MAR (KGTV)- The popular stairs that connect Torrey Pines State Beach to the reserve trails are being removed for repairs. Park maintenance crews will be barricading the stairs Monday evening. They will be completely removed Tuesday morning, before high tide. The stairs will be removed for repairs for four to six weeks. They plan to repair as much as they can and keep the original metal staircase. The stairs have been in place for ten years. Crews tell 10News about one million hikers use the stairs annually. With high foot traffic and the wear and tear from the salt water, the stairs need some preventative work. The trails will remain open while the stairs are removed. Hikers will only be able to access the trails from the reserve trailheads. 764
