BEIJING, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The State Council, China's cabinet, said Wednesday the forced eviction of farmers from their homes must be stopped and avoided during rural land maintenance.The rural land maintenance campaign should bring about higher incomes for farmers and more efficient agriculture and not go against farmers' will, the State Council, at a meeting presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao, said, according to a statement released after the meeting.Emphasis must be placed on farmland maintenance that aims to improve the ratio of high output farmland in rural areas, the statement said.Strict measures should be taken to protect farmland and boost its efficiency, the statement said, calling for integrated land maintenance that involves farmland, irrigation systems, roads, forests and villages.Moreover, the statement said government officials and related staff will be held accountable for violations.

BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee met Tuesday in a meeting on anti-corruption, demanding greater efforts in addressing problems the masses complained about most and fighting corruption among grassroots officials.The meeting was presided over by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President Hu Jintao. The participants heard a report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC over anti-corruption work for 2010 and discussed related plans for 2011.The meeting has called for further efforts to address problems concerning construction projects, and vehicles bought and used at public expenses.Those attending the meeting said regulations and disciplines that govern the selection of officials must be strictly followed and related unsound practices should be corrected.Noting that fighting corruption was still a tough task, the meeting urged all related authorities to step up anti-corruption efforts towards building a clean government.Further, more work must be done to improve officials' style of work and cement ties between the CPC and the masses, the meeting participants said.Also, the participants called for efforts towards building an improved anti-corruption system that consisted of corruption prevention and punishment.Such a move, they added, would facilitate the implementation of China's development blueprint for the 12th Five-Year-Plan period (2011-2015) and China's social and economic development.China will mark the 90th anniversary of CPC's founding next year. VIENNA, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China remained open to initiatives on the establishment of an international nuclear fuel bank , a senior Chinese diplomat said here Friday. "The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA should play an active role in establishing such mechanism, on the prerequisite of maintaining its independence, " said Hu Xiaodi, China's permanent representative and ambassador to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna. "China is of the view that the establishment and operation of multilateral mechanism on assurance of nuclear fuel supply involves complex political, economic, technical and legal factors as well as practical interests of all Member States, " Hu told a board meeting of IAEA. Referring to an U.S. proposal on the establishment of an IAEA low-enrichment uranium bank, Hu noted that some IAEA Member States still had concerns on that proposal. "The concerns of relevant states should be taken into full consideration and resolved in order to seek the most extensive support," Hu said. He also said that while the objective of preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons should be promoted, Member States ' right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy should not be affected.There have been a number of initiatives to establish nuclear fuel reserve banks in recent years.The U.S. proposal envisions a nuclear fuel bank run by IAEA, to which countries could turn to if their regular supplies were cut.However, the plan has met opposition from some developing countries. They worry that a nuclear fuel bank could undermine their right to acquire their own nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Some countries are also concerned with the possibility of fuel supply being controlled by western powers and used for political purposes.

BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- China has made steady progress in containing the spread of illegal publications and cracking down on the dissemination of lewd content through the Internet and mobile phones in 2010, according to the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications.The office has recently disclosed the following facts and figures about the related efforts China has made so far this year:-- Around 44.37 million copies of illegal publications, including 981,000 copies of lewd content, 37.35 million pirated copies, some 3.93 million illegal copies of newspapers and magazines, among others, have been confiscated across China.-- More than 16,000 cases, including over 10,000 ones of pirated publications, 1,669 cases involving pornography, and 371 cases involving fake journalists, news reports or media outlets, have been uncovered this year.-- China has shut down more than 60,000 porn websites since launching a crackdown in December 2009.-- Law enforcers across China during a campaign launched in April had destroyed a total of 36.39 million copies of pirated or illegal publications, audio and video discs.-- The office has received over 170,000 tip-offs, mostly about the online or cellphone-based spreading of porn content this year and 534 people have been rewarded 544,000 yuan (81,964 dollars) for the information provided.-- Authorities in Zhongshan City of southern Guangdong Province shut down a huge disc-producing outfit with five production lines and confiscated 3.87 million illegal discs.
