SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's newly renamed Museum of Us will reopen to visitors this week.The museum, formerly called the Museum of Man, will reopen on Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. under the state's new guidelines for museums during the coronavirus pandemic.The Museum of Us will operate at 25% capacity when it reopens and all guests will be required to wear a face covering. Other measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 include:Plexiglass is in place at the admission desk to minimize contact.Guests are required to keep 6 feet of distance between other visitors.Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the museum.Guests will be given a personal pencil to use throughout interactive exhibits.Guests will be provided a suggested linear path of travel to promote social distancing.Handrails and other surfaces throughout the museum are frequently sanitized for your safety.The museum is encouraging guests to also purchase their tickets ahead of time online or by using debit or credit cars. Cash will still be accepted if needed. Tickets can be purchased online for general admission or for students with school ID, military with active ID, seniors 62 and older, and youth 6-17. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - South Bay Pentecostal Church has been involved in a legal battle since May regarding worshiping indoors, and officials think Friday could be the light at the end of the tunnel.Senior Pastor Arthur Hodges believes during a motions hearing Friday morning the church will be granted permission to reopen indoors.His hope comes from the latest rulings by several judges.On Dec. 3, the Supreme Court ruled places of worship in New York could reopen, saying restrictions meant to curb the pandemic violated the First Amendment of the Constitution.After that ruling, the high court issued an unsigned order to California judges to reconsider Gov. Gavin Newsom's restrictions.On Wednesday, a judge ruled restaurants could reopen indoors in San Diego."That absolutely makes us hopeful, and I've told restaurateurs, business owners, whatever, we're fighting for you, too. Now we have a bigger gun than they do. We've got the Constitution, OK; they don't have that. but they're finding ways to get around it with the right to assemble," Hodges said.Hodges said back in May their initial lawsuit was voted down 5-4 by the Supreme Court.Hodges believes under a high court that shifted majority when Judge Amy Coney Barrett replaced the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, they will prevail."If religious liberties are lost, you can mark it down your personal liberties are going to be lost," Hodges said, arguing this lawsuit is to protect more than places of worship.Hodges said if they win this legal battle it will pave the way for the rest of the country. 1563

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Schools across San Diego County can reopen for in-person learning if they choose to on Tuesday, Sept. 1, as long as our COVID-19 case rate stays low enough through Sunday, Aug. 31.The county will be providing free testing for all school employees, which is strongly recommended by the California Department of Public Health.“What we’re going to be doing is making testing available at over 20 County-coordinated sites,” said Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. “In addition to that, we’re working with the San Diego Office of Education to open additional testing sites regionally that will be dedicated to school staff.”County officials say testing for asymptomatic children is discouraged, but if parents feel the need to have their children tested, they should consult with their pediatrician.Eight to ten school districts plan to reopen within the next two weeks to one month, according to Dr. Paul Gothold, San Diego County Office of Education Superintendent.“If there’s 5% of positive cases identified in one school, then the entire school would need to shut down,” said Gothold.More than 100 schools, mostly private, applied for waivers to reopen for in-person learning. The county stopped accepting the waivers this week since all schools can likely reopen soon.“I feel confident that we’re ready to reopen,” said Holly McClurg, Superintended of the Del Mar Union School District. The district’s waiver was approved, McClurg said district officials have been working with experts, physicians, and parents for months to develop a safe reopening plan.She said students and teachers at the district’s eight schools were split into two groups. Superintendent Dr. Carmen Garcia sent ABC 10News a statement saying in part, “Our Governing Board will be approving our return to in-person instruction at our upcoming September board meeting.”Poway Unified will also start virtually on Sept. 2, but parents received a letter from the superintendent which read in part, “Even with this shorter, revised reopening timeline, we have no way of knowing for certain whether San Diego County will be able go 14 straight days staying off the monitoring list. As a large school district, we cannot wait until the day before the first day of school to find out. We already know the constantly changing timelines and decisions have made planning extremely difficult and frustrating for District leadership, our staff, and our families. As a result, to avoid further uncertainty for our staff and families planning for Fall, the Board of Education reaffirmed our Sept. 2 fully virtual start at its last meeting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police requested the public’s help Thursday to identify a man suspected of buying an Apple MacBook and iPhones through identity theft and credit card fraud. The man used a fake ID card with the victim’s real information to access the victim’s account at the Verizon store on Sports Arena Blvd. June 9, police said. Two new Apple iPhone X’s worth ,500 were added to the victim’s account. Police said the man also went to the Best Buy on Mission Center Road and bought a MacBook worth ,000 through the victim’s store credit card. The victim has no knowledge of how his information was accessed, police said. Investigators said the suspect is a white man in his mid 20s to mid 30s, heavy set, with short dark hair.
