The New York attorney general is investigating the parent company of MoviePass, a source familiar with the probe confirmed to CNN Business.The state is looking into whether Helios and Matheson (HMNY) misled investors about its finances, the source said. The investigation is being conducted under New York's Martin Act, an anti-fraud and investor protection law. The existence of the probe was first reported Wednesday by CNBC.The movie subscription service exploded in popularity last year when it began offering customers the ability to watch as many movies in theaters as they wanted for per month. But that business model proved unsustainable, and the company has since changed its subscription plans and pricing as well as the number of movies it makes available to its customers.As the company's troubles worsened this year, its stock price also cratered.Helios and Matheson stock was trading at an all-time high of nearly a share in October 2017. The company said at the time that it intended to "vigorously defend" itself and believed the complaints were "without merit."Last month, the company filed new paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission indicating that it was going to ask shareholders to vote on another reverse split — one that this time could increase the stock by as much as 500-fold.That meeting was scheduled to happen Thursday. When a plane would normally be ascending in the first few minutes of flight, the Lion Air jet experienced a 726-foot drop over 21 seconds.Aviation expert Philip Butterworth-Hayes told CNN that the data was unusual -- especially since takeoffs like this are typically controlled by the plane's automatic systems."This doesn't fit an automatic flight profile," Butterworth-Hayes said while studying the data. The police officer who handcuffed and arrested a nurse for refusing to go against the hospital's policy on drawing blood said through an attorney that he would like to personally apologize for the incident, KUTV reported. Detective Jeff Payne faced criticism for the way he handled an incident in July where he requested hospital employees to draw blood from an unconscious driver who had just been in an accident without that driver's permission or a warrant. The hospital, citing legal precedent, has a policy of not drawing blood without permission or a court-ordered warrant. When nurse Alex Wubbels refused to draw blood, she was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser. "Jeff would love the chance to sit down and apologize for what happened here," attorney Greg Skordas told KUTV. "If he could do this over he would do it over differently."Payne, along with another officer, were placed on administrative leave by the Salt Lake City Police Department after video of the incident went viral.
