SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County officials have three words when it comes to wildfires: ready, set, and go. The Office of Emergency Services is calling on residents to take steps before a disaster to protect their homes and the safety of their families. Be Ready During a wildfire, defensible space can also make your home easier for firefighters to protect. State law requires you to create 100 feet of defensible space around your home. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego and National City Police detained three people and sought a fourth Friday at a South Bay home where a neighbor said shots were fired.The incident started Friday about 5 p.m. at Alpha and 47th streets in National City. A woman who lives near the home told 10News she heard gunfire. A 10News crew on the scene saw a man and woman leave the home with their hands raised. Police said three people were detained for questioning. Officers were searching for a fourth person in relation to the incident.There were no reports of injuries. 10News is monitoring breaking developments. 611

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials say free flu shots will be offered at six events in the coming days, just as flu season picks up around the county.Health officials say this helps lower the risk of San Diegans getting influenza and the coronavirus at the same time and prevent the local healthcare system from being overwhelmed.The upcoming clinics will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first flu shot clinic will occur on Oct. 22 at North Central Public Health Center, 5055 Ruffin Road.The others will take place:-- Saturday, Oct. 24 at South Public Health Center, 690 Oxford Street, Chula Vista.-- Tuesday, Oct. 27 at North Coastal Public Health Center, 3609 Ocean Ranch Blvd, Oceanside.-- Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Central Public Health Center VIP Trailer, 3177A Oceanview Blvd.-- Thursday, Oct. 29 at East Public Health Center, 367 N. Magnolia Avenue, El Cajon.-- Tuesday, November 3 at North Inland Public Health Center, 640 W. Mission Ave #2, Escondido."The clinics are free and primarily for people with no medical insurance,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County Public Health Officer. “We want everyone to be protected against the flu and its possible complications."The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months of age and older get flu shot every year. 1330

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue unveiled two new tools Wednesday that will help their dive team be faster and more efficient. "They move about 5 times faster than a diver can swim," Sergeant Rob Brown, with the SDFD Dive Team, said. The first hour during a search is crucial, he added. It could mean the difference between life or death. According to the website, DiveX, the scooters can go up to 600 feet underwater and can drive about 3 miles-per-hour. "It reduces our air consumption, allows us to stay under longer, as well as reduce diver fatigue, so we can get more reps in while we're conducting searches," Brown said.The team's had scooters since the 1990's but the new Piranhas are three generations ahead of what the team's been using, according to Brown.The need became apparent in August of 2018, when a 12-year-old girl fell off a boat in the San Vicente Reservoir. Her body was found days later.The team's request was answered by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation. They donated two scooters to the team, costing about ,000 each."We cannot say enough how grateful we are for the support of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation in getting this equipment to us," Brown said. The foundation is accepting donations to afford four more scooters here.Brown said the scooters are lightweight and they can buy the batteries at Home Depot, saying they're the same as those power tools use. 1415
