WINDHOEK, March 25 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Thursday arrived in Windhoek to kick off his official visit to the southwestern African nation of Namibia.Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top advisory body, was making the visit at the invitation of the National Council of Namibia.Namibia was the second leg of Jia's 10-day African tour which already took him to Cameroon. BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhua) -- China had raised 4.349 billion yuan (637 million U.S. dollars) of donations in money and materials for quake-hit Yushu as of Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.The donations included 3.66 billion yuan and quake-relief materials worth 686 million yuan as of 4:00 p.m., said a statement released by the ministry.The post said 635 million yuan, including 79 million yuan and materials worth 556 million yuan, had been channeled to the quake zone.It said 69,353 cotton-padded tents, 143,854 cotton-padded coats, together with other quake-relief materials, had been delivered to Yushu.At least 2,200 people died and more than 100,000 were left homeless when the 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit the Yushu prefecture, Qinghai Province on April 14.

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday pledged to work with Bosnia and Herzegovina to enhance the bilateral relationship between the two nations."We should work together to achieve this goal based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit," Wen said during his talks with Nikola Spiric, chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.Hailing the traditional friendship between the two nations, Wen said China respects the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and respects its peoples's choice of their development path.Wen hoped the western Balkan region would achieve lasting peace and stability.Wen said trade and economic cooperation between the two countries has good prospects. BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao will attend the Nuclear Security Summit on April 12 and 13 in Washington, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Thursday."China attaches importance to nuclear security, opposes nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism, and supports international cooperation," Qin said at a regular press briefing in Beijing.Leaders and representatives from more than 40 countries and some regional and international organizations, such as the European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency, will take part in the conference."We hope the summit will achieve a consensus by all countries on nuclear security and yield positive results," Qin said.After the meeting, Hu will pay a state visit to Brazil and attend the second summit of the BRIC nations -- Brazil, Russia, India and China -- in Brasilia from April 14 to 17, Qin said.Hu will also pay a state visit to Venezuela on April 17 and 18, and make a working visit to Chile on April 18, Qin said.
