BALTIMORE, Maryland — A man running away from the Baltimore Police died after being hit by a car last week.Officers were conducting a narcotics investigation in the 2700 block of Greenmount Avenue around 8:30 p.m. March 28. When they tried to talk to 21-year-old Larry Whitfield during the investigation, he immediately started to run away. Whitfield was able to escape officers and tried to cross Greenmount Avenue when he was hit by a car traveling southbound. He was transported to a hospital where he died Friday morning. The driver of the car was not injured and stayed on the scene after the crash. Detectives are working with the narcotics unit to evaluate all the evidence from the scene. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.  785

BOWIE, Maryland — Some students at Bowie High School in Prince George's County may face charges for a senior prank they pulled at the school last week.About 20 seniors stormed the school's hallways, taking part in what was meant to look like a school shooting.The seniors used fireworks and water guns and were wearing black masks, according to a letter from the school.The school was evacuated.One student was burned by the fireworks and also treated for an asthma attack.The father of that student was shocked to learn what had happened."I don't know what had to go through somebody's mind to pull of a prank like this in this day and age, so close to Parkland and two days later they had a shooting today down in Texas," said Steve Birckhead, father of the injured student. "These kids just weren't thinking."School officials say the students who participated in the prank will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. 952

BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) - California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a wrong-way crash on the Eastbound lanes of Highway 54 near the 125. The crash happened just after 8 p.m. Friday and reduced traffic to one lane. All lanes reopened shortly before 11 p.m. CHP believes the driver of a red Toyota Corolla was driving the wrong way and crashed into a white BMW carrying a mother and two children. BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — The FBI is investigating after a piece of rope resembling a noose was found in a Black firefighter's locker in the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington. An FBI spokesman confirmed Saturday the bureau is investigating and said that the case is in its initial stages. Bloomington officials had asked the FBI to investigate. Officials say that the rope was tied into what appears to be a crude noose and was discovered at a Bloomington fire station on June 15. The discovery was reported to Fire Department leaders eight days later, on Tuesday. The fire chief says such acts that “embody hate, intimidation, and aggression will not be tolerated.” Mayor Tim Busse says he's “disgusted, angry, and embarrassed by this cowardly act.” 758
