Victoria's Secret CEO Jan Singer has resigned amid a sales slump and competition from young companies challenging the brand's grip on the lingerie industry. The Wall Street Journal first reported Singer's departure last week. Victoria's Secret parent company L Brands (LB) made it official during its quarterly earnings release.John Mehas, now the president of Tory Burch, will take over as CEO of Victoria's Secret Lingerie early next year, the company said.Sales at Victoria's Secret stores that have been open for at least a year dropped 6% last quarter. Victoria's Secret has close to 1,000 stores in the United States, many of them tied to struggling malls.Last year, Victoria Secret's same-store sales in North America fell 8% in part because of the company's decision to stop selling swimwear and clothing."Our number one priority is improving performance at Victoria's Secret Lingerie and PINK," said Leslie Wexner, Chairman and CEO of L Brands. "We could not be more excited for [Mehas] to lead Victoria's Secret Lingerie to a new phase of success."Singer took over in 2016 after a stint at Spanx. She worked at Nike (NKE) for more than a decade.Victoria's Secret has been struggling to keep up with changing consumer tastes. Flashy fashion shows, push-up bras and celebrity models aren't drawing people in like they used to. Instead, women are clamoring for more products with a better fit.Online stores like ThirdLove, Lively and True & Co. are using tech and harnessing data to offer custom sizes and new products.Other parts of the L Brands business have been struggling. The company announced in September that it is closing Bendel's website and all 23 of its stores, including the store's iconic Fifth Avenue location in New York, in January 2019 because of sluggish sales.A change in Victoria's Secret leadership may not be enough to convince experts that L Brands is turning itself around."Jan was not the problem," Jefferies analyst Randal Konik wrote last week following rumors of Singer's exit. "The real problem is the VS brand is not resonating with consumers, its pricing power is gone, its market share is under permanent attack, and the business is over-stored." 2198

UPDATE: Melissa Berton won the Oscar for documentary short. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family members of a woman behind an Oscar-nominated film are preparing a big bash on Sunday night.Inside a home in Del Derro, the party decor is going up. The catering menu has been decided."I feel like crying. So excited for her," said Tamara Berton."This is extra special," said Robert Berton. From a proud father to an emotional sister, the Oscar anticipation is climbing for the short documentary: "Period. End of Sentence.""It's been a profound experience from start to finish," said Melissa Berton. The journey for Patrick Henry High graduate and English teacher Melissa Berton began in 2013. She advised a group of students at her North Hollywood school, selected as United Nation delegates to advocate for women and girls, where they learned about the taboo nature of menstruation in parts of India. They formed a nonprofit called the Pad Project, in hopes of getting a machine to create biodegradable pads to a rural village in India. Through a Kickstarter campaign and bake sales, Berton and her students raised more than ,000 for the machine - and a film."We never thought it would be an Oscar-nominated film, but the idea was always, if we could just make an educational film to raise awareness about this issue then that would be the jewel of the nonprofit," said Berton, who is the film's Executive Producer. The film was put on the film festival circuit, receiving award after award. On Sunday night, expect the film's biggest cheering section to be in San Diego."It really wasn't really for herself. It was for others and that's what make me most proud of her ... It will be a thrilling night no matter what happens, especially so if she wins the Oscar," said Berton. The film has received some Hollywood backing. Actor Jack Black, Berton's classmate at UCLA, was among its earliest donors. Other actors including Sarah Paulson and Kiefer Sutherland has supported the film on social media. 1992

UPDATE (6:22 P.M. PST, 3/8/19)The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office reported on March 8, 2019 that Dr. Robert Stephens, an anesthesiologist accused of sexually assaulting patients, will not face charges related to this case.Stephens asserted his innocence in a Team 10 Investigative Report published on February 22, 2019. Read more about the case in the Team 10 report below. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local doctor is accused of sexually assaulting patients who were under anesthesia. In an exclusive interview, 10News investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner spoke to a former patient who says he was abused. She also sat down with the accused doctor for an interview. The doctor was cleared to return to work and denies any abuse.Edward Braun of Alpine is the former patient. He says he found out when Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest called him and said that a nurse had reported the allegations. “I’m sad. I can't believe somebody would do this,” Braun tells 10News. Braun details the day he got the life-changing call from Scripps Mercy, notifying him that he may have been sexually assaulted by his anesthesiologist, Dr. Robert Stephens, while Braun was under anesthesia for surgery. “I was stunned. I was shaking,” he adds. “What I was accused of never happened,” Dr. Stephens tells 10News. He says he doesn't even remember Braun's surgery. “Given that I've done 5,000 plus surgeries, only the remarkable ones stand out and that entire day was thoroughly unremarkable,” he adds. However, it doesn't end with that day and that patient. The allegations are from 2017 and are detailed in a report published by the California Department of Public Health. In the report, three nurses came forward, and mentioned multiple patients. One nurse claimed to have witnessed the anesthesiologist's hand "underneath the sheets on four other occasions" when patients were "under general anesthesia". The report reveals that the nurse who allegedly witnessed Braun's assault claimed that the doctor's hand was under Braun's blanket, by Braun's groin. “She tried to pull the blanket off and he pulled it back and then she yanked it off and saw what he was doing,” says Braun. “I was still under anesthesia, unconscious when it happened,” he adds. “I have never been inappropriate with any of my patients, nor would I ever be,” says Dr. Stephens. We ask, “Why would three nurses falsely accuse you of something so egregious?” “It's speculation and I don't want to speculate. I don't see any benefit of me speculating in that respect,” he responds. According to the state report, the doctor said he sometimes may have had his hand "under the drapes" to "check EKG leads" and "monitor leads". In the report, it appears the nurses were the ones who got in trouble for not immediately and appropriately reporting what they allegedly witnessed. However, there's no mention of any corrective action for the doctor. “[The nurses] report something and they get reprimanded for it? That's not right,” Braun tells us. The hospital sent 10News the following statement: “Patient safety is a top priority at Scripps. While we are unable to comment on pending litigation, we can share that following allegations of improper conduct, the Medical Staffs of Scripps Mercy Hospital, Scripps Green Hospital and Scripps Memorial Hospital, Encinitas suspended Robert Stephens, M.D., and initiated a hearing before an arbitrator. After five full-day evidentiary sessions, the arbitrator found that, while the initial action was reasonable, the suspension was no longer reasonable and Dr. Stephens should be permitted to return to work. Subsequently, the parties reached a confidential agreement. After the agreement was reached, Dr. Stephens voluntarily resigned his Scripps Medical staff memberships and all clinical privileges.” Dr. Stephens says the arbitrator reviewed all the records and witness testimony. “[The arbitrator] ruled that not only was their story changing on that side but that their witnesses were not credible [and] their witnesses were not believable [and] I was credible and honest,” he explains.San Diego Police have an active criminal investigation, according to a Deputy District Attorney who's involved in the case. That DA confirmed that prosecutors have fought all the way up to the California Supreme Court to get records from Scripps Mercy Hospital, but have so far been unsuccessful. The DA agreed that his office is putting up a more aggressive fight than what's typical, but he wouldn't comment further about why. “I put my life in this guy's hands to take care of me and he abused his power,” says Braun. Last month, Braun sued Dr. Stephens, Scripps Health and Anesthesia Service Medical Group for assault, battery and negligence, among other complaints. Anesthesia Service Medical Group is Dr. Stephens’ former employer. It sent 10News the following statement: “ASMG was shocked and saddened to learn of the allegations made against Dr. Robert Stephens, a former employee of ASMG. From the moment ASMG learned of these allegations, Dr. Stephens has not provided care to any ASMG patients. Dr. Stephens was hired after very extensive background and credentialing checks, and up until the time these accusations were made, there was nothing to indicate that Dr. Stephens might present a risk to patients. ASMG is committed to hiring only those physicians who will provide the highest level of patient care, and will aggressively defend itself against any claim that it negligently hired or negligently employed Dr. Stephens.” “The initial allegations are very catchy and they do pack a punch but they aren't the truth,” says Stephens. The other patients who may have been affected don't know it. According to the state report, they couldn't be identified. Dr. Stephens is now practicing at Alvarado Medical Center near San Diego State University. 5865

Two influential staffers at the Environmental Protection Agency are leaving the agency, CNN has learned. The security chief for EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and the leader of the agency's Superfund cleanup program are both departing, according to an internal email and an agency statement, respectively. The exits come just days after Pruitt's management of the agency, including substantial spending on his personal security, travel, and office, came under scrutiny at back-to-back congressional hearings.Pasquale "Nino" Perrotta, the special agent in charge of the Pruitt security detail, announced his departure in a one-sentence email to colleagues on Tuesday morning."It has been a tremendous honor to serve as a special agent for the past 23 years and I wish you all a safe journey ahead as you move forward in both your professional and personal lives," Perrotta wrote. The security team overseen by Perrotta, a former Secret Service agent, has ballooned under Pruitt. Expensive and elaborate practices, such as flying in first class airplane seats, have drawn the attention of watchdogs like the EPA's own inspector general.Rep. Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina Republican, has indicated the House Oversight Committee, which he chairs, is interested in interviewing Perrotta about Pruitt's security and travel. Perrotta's predecessor was pushed aside after refusing to drive Pruitt around Washington using police lights and siren, three sources familiar with the situation told CNN.The EPA has repeatedly defended the spending and security practices as necessary given an increased level of threats against Pruitt. But Senate Democrats say a whistleblower and internal documents cast doubt on the severity of the threats. The EPA did not respond to CNN's request for comment on Perrotta's departure. The other staffer leaving the EPA is Albert "Kell" Kelly, an Oklahoma business associate of Pruitt who was appointed to lead the Superfund cleanup program."Kell Kelly's service at EPA will be sorely missed," Pruitt said in a statement to CNN confirming the departure.Kelly was a senior adviser to Pruitt whose role at EPA involved managing the program that cleans contaminated sites, such as dumping grounds and former industrial or mining facilities.Pruitt appointed Kelly to the position after the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, an arm of the federal government that oversees the banking industry, ended Kelly's banking career with a lifetime ban from the industry. The exact nature of his violations were not disclosed.Kelly's former bank, Spiritbank, handled the mortgage for Pruitt's 2004 home purchase in a suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The bank was also involved in the purchase of a minor league baseball team by Pruitt and business partners. The New York Times reported that Kelly's bank also handled the mortgage on an Oklahoma City house Pruitt purchased through a shell company from a lobbyist. One of Pruitt's partners in the shell company also now holds a political appointment at the EPA.Neither Perrotta nor Kelly announced the dates they plan to leave the agency.  3099

Ayton is currently a freshman on the No. 14-ranked Wildcats, where he averages 19 points and 10 rebounds a game. That third party is Christian Dawkins, who the FBI says acted as an agent who steered players to certain schools in exchange for cash payments. In a Yahoo Sports report on Friday, Dawkins was listed as one of the key figures in an FBI investigation into corruption in college basketball.ESPN says a source familiar with the government's evidence told them that Miller discussed paying 0,000 to make sure star freshman Ayton signed with the Wildcats. 906
