SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California is the worst state for military retirees when it comes to the cost of housing, according to WalletHub. Overall, California ranked 21st on the list of best and worst states for military retirees. The Golden State ranked 9th for quality of life, 3rd for number of VA health facilities per number of veterans and 5th for number of VA benefits-administration facilities per number of veterans. Dragging California down to the 21st spot however, is the cost of living. The state ranked 51st for housing affordability and 49th for percent of veteran-owned businesses. California also ranked 48th for its percentage of homeless veterans and 12th for veteran job opportunities. The report also found that red states are friendlier to military retirees than blue states. 802

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — California public health officials say the Southern California region has run out of ICU bed capacity.The region, which includes San Diego and 10 other counties, hit 0% capacity, as the state reported 52,200 more coronavirus cases on Thursday. California officials say regional ICU capacity is calculated based on the total number of adult ICU beds minus neonatal and pediatric ICU beds. Adult ICU capacity includes staffed ICU beds and ICU surge beds.San Diego County said Thursday that it was currently at 16% ICU capacity after adding 2,604 new virus cases. There are 295 ICU cases in the county out of 1,186 hospitalizations. County health officials said there has been a 20% increase in ICU cases locally over the last seven days.The Southern California region was one of four regions under the 15% ICU capacity threshold for California's recent stay-at-home order:Bay Area: 13.1%Greater Sacramento Region: 11.3%Northern California: 25.8%San Joaquin Valley: 0.7%Southern California: 0.0%The Southern California region includes Imperial, Inyo, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties. 1182

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - California Governor Gavin Newsom talked with 10News Thursday in a one-on-one interview.He addressed key topics, including his revised budget plan for 3.5 billion in the upcoming fiscal year. The governor also talked about the death penalty in light of the Poway synagogue shooting, and if cases like it make the Governor rethink his decision to place a moratorium on the death penalty. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Attendance may have dipped at one of San Diego's biggest tourist destinations, but it may not be doom and gloom for the theme park.A new report from the Themed Entertainment Association shows Americans are heading out for fun at top parks around the U.S. The report says the country's top 20 parks saw a 2.3 percent increase overall in 2017.In San Diego, however, the draw to get people into parks wasn't nearly as positive.RELATED: SeaWorld San Diego's new Electric Eel roller coaster opens to the publicSeaWorld San Diego had 3.1 million visitors in 2017, a 13.9 percent drop from 2016's attendance of 3.6 million. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Chicano history will be celebrated in San Diego this week at one of the city's most historic parks.On April 20, the Logan Heights community will celebrate the 49th annual Chicano Park Day at the famed park underneath the Coronado Bridge. The free festival brings together community members annually for art, education, entertainment, and honoring Chicano culture and the park.This year theme will be "Danzantes, Protectors of Our Traditions and Chicano Park, 500 Years of Anti-Colonial Struggle."Performances are scheduled by a lineup of traditional and cultural dance groups and one of the largest Aztec Indigenous dance performances by Danza Azteca Calpulli Mexihca. In addition to dancing, kids art workshops, speakers, and more than 325 classic lowrider cars and bikes will be on display. Attendees can also visit various arts and crafts, and informational booths throughout the colorful park.And, of course, there's the food, which will be sprinkled throughout the park at various booths.The event comes a couple days before the official establishment of Chicano Park on April 22, 1970, by activists. The site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 and became a National Historic Landmark in 2016.The park is known for an array of colorful murals lining the Coronado Bay Bridge's legs that make up the Chicano Park Monumental Murals. Artists illustrate Chicano history and culture through murals and sculptures throughout the park. 1487
