But to the extent that we just found out last night, totally surprised about that," the neighbor said.The Null brothers had ties to militia groups and were frequently seen at local demonstrations, including in at a rally in Grand Rapids protesting Whitmer's stay-at-home order that took place in May.William Null was spotted on stage standing alongside Leaf, who was a guest speaker at the event.Leaf said that while his agency wasn't involved in the investigation into the Wolverine Watchmen, he was "shocked" to learn of Null's involvement."I haven't read everything up on it, I've got other duties to do. It wasn't our investigation. I was shocked, did not see this coming with those guys, but still, we can't convict them in the media here. They do have a right to a fair trial," Leaf said.Leaf says he did not know of Null's alleged involvement in the kidnapping plot and didn't have any regrets about being on stage with him."It's just a charge, and they say a 'plot to kidnap,' and you've got to remember that. Are they trying to kidnap? Because a lot of people are angry with the governor, and they want her arrested," Leaf said. "So are they trying to arrest, or was it a kidnap attempt? Because you can still — in Michigan, if it's a felony — make a felony arrest.""I think it's MCL 764.4, 764.5 somewhere on there, and it doesn't say if you are an elected office that you're exempt from that arrest. I have to look at it from that angle, and I'm hoping that's more what it is. In fact, these guys are innocent till proven guilty, so I'm not even sure if they had any part of it," Leaf added.Leaf was likely referring to MCL 764.16, which allows private citizens to make an arrest in certain cases. He did not clarify how the statute would apply to an arrest of Whitmer.The sheriff insists the Null brothers were always very nice and respectful."The two gentlemen that I know of from my county — Were they involved in that? I don't know. They're innocent until proven guilty. This particular example only costs a dollar, plus there’s no charge for shipping, although they’re coming from China. But, while you might not pay for shipping on this particular order, you’re paying for it in other ways you might not know about.“We might not see it in that package, say of yoga pants that's being shipped, but we're paying the subsidy through taxpayer dollars,” explains Dempsey. “We're paying for it as consumers when we go to the postal service and send a small package. DeSantis announced Friday in his press conference in St. Petersburg that restaurants and select businesses can operate at full capacity.Phase 3 of Gov. DeSantis' "SAFE. SMART. STEP-BY-STEP PLAN" ensures Floridians that restaurants can reopen at a minimum 50% capacity if the local government prohibits them from reopening at full capacity.“Everybody has an opportunity and the right to work. Every business has the right to operate,” said Gov. DeSantis said.With Phase 3, Gov. DeSantis said he will no longer place limitations on businesses due to coronavirus concerns."There will not be limitations from the state of Florida," Gov. DeSantis said.The Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association (FRLA) President and CEO Carol Dover said the pandemic has caused 336,000 people in the industry to lose their jobs.“The effects on the local and state economy have been significant. Some say there’s a problem with the old proverb that if you give a man fish, you feed him for day, but if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.Some argue that in order to complete a task, or learn a life lesson, people need access to the right equipment and education from someone with the right experience.“We didn’t get an opportunity like this,” said Hanifah Chiku while practicing flyfishing with her 6-year-old grandson Kamal during an event hosted by Colorado Blackpackers, a nonprofit on a mission to provide free gear, outdoor excursions and education to ethnic minorities.“We meet those who are at the intersection of economic vulnerability and under-representation,” said Patricia Cameron, founder of Colorado Blackpackers, a group she started a few years ago with the hopes of expanding to other states.“The opportunity to provide more outdoor experiences for people of color across the country, absolutely,” Cameron said.During the flyfishing clinic, Chiku said her grandson is learning great lessons while enjoying the great outdoors“They afford the opportunities to give people this experience and to come out and participate in different venues,” she said.Helping people learn how to properly set up a reel and rod are volunteers like Eeland Stribling, who says these events give people of color unique opportunities.“I feel a lot more community when I see people who kind of look like me,” he said.The classes and gear are free, with people like Kyle Fulmer donating outdoor supplies from his company RovR Products.“We want people, it doesn’t matter where you’re from, to be able to have the same access and opportunity in the outdoors,” he said.Cameron says Blackpackers is helping people learn life lessons while creating their own proverbs.“My tag line is: economic equity and outdoor recreation,” she said. 1850
