(KGTV) — A federal judge has denied Stone Brewing's request for a preliminary injunction in its lawsuit against MillerCoors over its Keystone Light product cans.Stone's motion to dismiss MillerCoors' counterclaims were also denied. The injunction would have prevented MillerCoors from using the rebranded cans during trial, according to IP and craft beer attorney Brendan Palfrey. More court documents can be read on Palfrey's Twitter page.Stone Brewing filed the suit against MillerCoors in February 2018, after the beer maker rebranded its Keystone Light products to feature "Stone" on a separate line in bold fashion.RELATED: San Diego's Stone Brewing sues MillerCoors over Keystone cans: 'We will not stand for this'While Stone lost out on the injunction, the judge did say Stone's trademark infringement case is “moderately strong." The judge added that the court agreed with Stone, "especially considering the marks incontestability, [Stone] is entitled to the strong protection afforded to suggestive marks."The case will likely now move to trial.Following the ruling, Stone's cofounder Greg Koch issued a statement, saying the court confirmed their case against MillerCoors.“This is a very big deal. The Court’s order confirms what we knew: that MillerCoors should be ashamed of what they have been doing. All along this has been a clear-cut infringement case, and now we can focus our resources on proving the significant damages done to the good name of Stone Brewing," Koch said.Stone CEO Dominic Engels added, "We are pleased that the Court recognized the validity of Stone’s infringement claims. MillerCoors has made hundreds of millions of dollars from rebranding Keystone in a way that infringes on our trademark. Gavin Newsom has reversed parole for Charles Mason follow Leslie Van Houten, the fourth time a governor has stopped her release from prison.Newsom said Friday that Van Houten still poses a danger if released from prison.Van Houten is serving a life sentence for her part in helping Manson and others kill Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969. Van Houten was 19 years old at the time of the murders.Newsom has stopped her release once before, while former Governor Jerry Brown blocked it twice.Van Houten's attorney plans to appeal Newsom's decision.The Associated Press contributed to this report. 654

(KGTV) — California has already received more than 1.5 million vote-by-mail ballots back with just under three weeks left until the 2020 election.At least 1,511,522 mail-in ballots have been recorded by the state, according to the California Secretary of State office. At this point ahead of the 2016 election, the state had received only 150,000 mail-in ballots.During the 2016 election, a total of 8,443,594 mail-in ballots were recorded, according to the state.RELATED: A step-by-step guide to voting by mail or in person in San Diego CountyThis year, election officials are preparing for an avalanche of ballots to travel through the postal system. California sent a mail-in ballot to every active, registered voter due to the coronavirus pandemic, totaling more than 21 million ballots.In San Diego County, as of Sept. 4, there were about 1,869,527 active, registered voters.Voters can still cast their ballot in person or drop off their ballot at an official. An official search to find the closest polling or drop off location to you is available online.New this year, voters across the state can also track their ballot online and find out when it was mailed, received, and counted.According to the San Diego Registrar of Voters' Michael Vu, voters are encouraged to return their ballots with plenty of time to make sure they are counted. Vu says voters should, "clearly mark that ballot, similar to when you’re going to a polling place with an ink pen. Black or blue is preferred."Vu says missing or mismatched signatures, meaning the signature on the ballot doesn’t match the one on file, are one of the most common reasons ballots get disqualified.
