SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Almost immediately after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were announced as the projected winning ticket, the San Diego community took to the streets.In Hillcrest, Biden-Harris supporters lined University Avenue holding signs and flags, with cars packed onto the street honking their horns loudly. The honking and cheering lasted well into the night.“I think healing at this point is what the country needs,” said Joe Hoffman, a Biden supporter in Hillcrest.At Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego, a crowd of President Trump’s supporters lined the streets with similar signs and cheers, also encouraging people to honk.One San Diego man and supporter of President Trump made the decision to drive to Sacramento through Friday night, arriving Saturday morning to the news of the projected winners. After the overnight drive, Blake Marnell attended a rally in front of the Capitol. He said he won’t give up on President Trump until all the votes have been counted and all legal battles are complete.“I don’t think this is the final outcome and I’m going to be behind the president as long as he’s in the fight,” said Marnell, adding that “The people [who] support the president are optimistic. We’re still behind him. We will be behind him as long as he’s in the fight.” 1292

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego police officer was involved in a shooting outside a music venue in downtown San Diego just before 7 p.m. Saturday.San Diego Police Lt. Mike Holden said that a white man in his thirties was acting violently on top of a vehicle hood on the corner of W. Ash Street and India Street.The man was only wearing pants and did not have a shirt or shoes on and was standing on the hood of a car yelling at the driver, police said. A police officer tried to take the man into custody and used a Taser, which did not subdue him. Police said the man continued to act violently.The officer then fired one shot, which did not hit anybody."The officer continued to struggle with the suspect," said Lt. Mike Holden of the San Diego Police Department. "At one point during the struggle the officer feared for his life. The officer fired one round from his handgun, but missed the suspect."The suspect, Brent Zadina, 30, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for observation. Police do not believe Zadina was armed.The officer sustained minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, Holden said. Police are investigating the incident near the Music Box. The roads were closed nearby for the investigation but have since reopened.This is a developing story. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Superior Court jury is deliberating the murder case against a 44-year-old man who admits killing his wife.Armando Perez was grilled about his relationship with his estranged wife; 19-year-old Diana Gonzalez.She was murdered seven years ago in a men's restroom at San Diego City College.He'd stalked her that day, climbing a tree to peer into a second-floor classroom to see if she were there.  After class he confronted her.  "I remember just losing it and I guess I stabbed her." "You killed her." "Yes."Perez testified that he was jealous and that she told him he'd never see their baby daughter again.Time and again he admitted guilt but denied clear memories of strangling her then mutilating her body; finally carving an obscenity into her back.The prosecutor continued,  "After you stabbed Diana  in her neck, in her chest, on her face; you knew she was dead, didn't you?" "I don't know. It was me but I don't remember doing it."Perez appeared to be fighting back tears at one point, as he was repeatedly asked about specifics of the attack. "I just became a monster. I don't remember doing none of that."If convicted, Perez faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. 1255

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An abandoned building on the edge of Hillcrest could become a game changer when it comes to mental health services.The County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to explore turning the 7-acre site into a behavioral health services center. The facility would be in an area where many of the most vulnerable have no other place to go. The county had initially shopped the site for redevelopment into high-end housing, but County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher pushed his colleagues to make the change. "The old and lingering problem in many ways requires us to think differently," Fletcher said. Fletcher said he recently saw a man walking in the area in a hospital gown with his emergency room bracelet still on, carrying a clear plastic bag. RELATED: San Diego city, county working together in new program to battle homelessness in HillcrestFletcher said it's a common situation."(The man) had been experiencing homelessness, got the highest level most expensive care, nowhere for him to go, he's back on the streets," Fletcher said. Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health, says there's a cycle when it comes to mental health needs. "We're placing them," she said. "It's really difficult, there's not enough places to place them, and they churn out pretty quickly, and can end up back in our emergency room."Maysent said homeless people with mental health issues enter the emergency room multiple times a night. UCSD Medical Center, however, has only 18 beds in its closed inpatient unit. "If we can move those patients that are in the inpatient unit into other settings, then we can create capacity for the patients coming into the emergency room."Maysent said it's an issue that's become more widespread over the past few years as cost-of-living increased and hospital facilities aged. The proposed site is within a mile of both UC San Diego Medical Center and Scripps Mercy Hospital. In a statement, Scripps Health said it supports to bring this much-needed care to patients. 2151

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman was killed and her young son was taken to the hospital Friday morning following a two-car crash on a Mira Mesa street.Late Friday night, friends at a vigil for the young mother confirmed to 10News that her name is Judy. A photo of Judy left at the vigil is attached to this article. The collision in the 7200 block of Calle Cristobal was reported just after 7 a.m., according to San Diego police.“It’s not very safe at all.” Neighbor, Lara Janda had been saying this for years, about her own driveway at Canyon Park Villas in Mira Mesa. “There are so many accidents that we have seen, heard, or we’ve almost been in a few,” Janda said.Then, on Friday morning, she saw what she had feared for years.Through the heavy fog, she found her neighbor’s car, crunched into another. The cars were mangled. There was glass everywhere. “There was no movement or anyone coming out of the vehicle,” Janda said, of her neighbor’s white Acura Legend.Police said the victim pulled out of the driveway of an apartment complex and was traveling southbound when a collision occurred with a Honda Accord traveling westbound on Calle Cristobal.The 27-year-old woman died at the scene, and police said the woman’s 4-year-old boy sustained a broken pelvis, broken ribs, a fractured skull and broken right knee. The child’s injuries are considered life-threatening. He was transported to Scripps La Jolla, then to Rady’s Children’s Hospital for treatment.Police said the boy was in a child safety seat at the time of the crash.Janda said she is saddened by what she knew was eventually going to happen. She said she reported the dangerous intersection to traffic police at least four times in the last two years, but saw no change. She believed what made it so awful this morning, was the combination of the fog, the speeding drivers, and the blind intersection.“We have high foliage here, and this large pole here, so it’s very difficult to see who is coming around this corner,“ Janda said, pointing at the road.For one family, Good Friday has become the worst day of their lives.And a neighborhood is now shaken up, hoping an accident like this, will never happen again. 2229
